Looking to buy a property in Bulgaria, mainly just to use as a base for a bit of skiing and renting out when we're not using it.

Anybody done it? Where is the up and coming areas, but still cheap enough to get a bargain?

Looking to spend around £50k.

my dad and i have been looking at investing there, its a good place on the surface esp since the dollar is undervalued by 50%
the ones i was looking at were near Varna

one problem though is that there are no cheap flights to Bulgaria, easyjet etc

It is tricky to get to at the moment, but new routes are opening up all the time. I'm thinking along the line of buying now before any cheap airline prices pushes prices up.

It's risky, but at the end of the day, you'll still have a nice place to stay for a holiday.

I’m also looking into buying this spring but I think I’ll be going for a beach apartment on the Black Sea coast rather that the ski chalet option. So far I’ve done a bit of research on the web.

I think 50K GBP may be a bit low if you want to buy a place in a new development. 100K EUR/ 75K GBP is nearer the mark now. If you want a more isolated place that needs some work 50K may be possible but then you need to find people to do the work, supervise it and it may be more difficult to rent out. Obviously the new developments will have less character so it really depends on what you’re looking for.

A lot of the new developments do a complete package where they manage the letting and have agreements with major tour operators so the properties appear in their brochures.

There seems to be plenty of estate agents catering to British investors although I can’t vouch for any of them myself yet. See these websites for more info:
