There is a Marlin Owners Club event across in Ireland in May and since I've never been to Ireland I figured I'd have a look at prices.

The cheapest quote I found was £199. To get to Ireland. Thats insane!

Do you know of any cheap ferry companies at all?

Get the quick ferry and PAY FOR IT. We had to sit next to screaming scallies and it took ages. Horrible.

It sounds like you're going in the school holidays. My ex bird was a teacher. Holidays=£££££££££ for the ferry companies. That's it, you're going on a day most kiddies won't be in school, yes?

It is ridiculous. Last summer, my GF and I decided to drive around Europe in my old van. It was ridiculous. As we were on a budget, we looked into the option of ditching the car in Spain and getting the Plymouth/Santander ferry back. £300 EACH as foot passengers. For s sake, you can get a flight out of Malaga for about £90.

Personally (as a skint bloke as well) I would do the trip if you haven't been to Ireland. It is great and the people are smashing. The jewel in the crown of Europe, without a doubt. But, I disagree with the Guinness being better. The London brewery uses better water, I reckon.

If it had been <£100 I would have considered it, but £200 for the ferries for a weekend

I'll spend the money and go somewhere else instead - the trannel is £100 or so at the moment.

Hi Stefan

Not exactly sure where this event is or where you are travelling from, but, having done many many many trips over here the best route in my mind is to get the Swansea - Cork overnight ferry.

It leaves at a sensible time in the evening and then runs through the night into Cork, arriving about 6:30 in the morning.

A lot of it depends on where you are travelling from in the UK - I see you are a NE PH'er so Holyhead is probably your best bet into Dun Laoghaire.

Te only two companies running are Irish Ferries and Stenna Line

Don't forget the option to fly and hire then hire a car either, could work out a bit cheaper.

Let me know if you're over and near us (Tipperary) - we can help out with accomodation and entertainement

Depends on your luck I guess, I just booked Le Mans, Dover to Boulogne return £50.

Best quote I could get on Dover to Calais was £172 and that was with a company where I knew the operator I was talking to personally!

Don't forget that you can get a ferry to Ireland from Stranraer, Troon and Cairnryan (But thats where the ferry was grounded yesterday ) to either Belfast or Larne. P£O run into Larne from Troon and Cairnryan, Stena from Stranraer into Belfast.
