How do you go about making yourself feel better when you've done something bad?

Something that won't get you slung inside, but makes you feel so cringeworthy & f**ked up that it is stopping you functioning normally?

Don't ask me no questions, I'll tell you no lies, but the question remains - how to feel good again.

The three "Revelation Space" books (the other two being "Chasm City" and "Redemption Ark") by Alaistair Reynolds dela in a very interesting manner with the question of redemption. Can something bad you have done in the past be made up for/offset by good acts further down the line?

More practically... I guess it depends what you've done. eg if you've been rude to somone its a simple matter to apologise.

Ok, I'll get my coat. Enough Roman Catholic references for one day.

Accept that you did it, figure out why you did it and accept that, move on.

like when i did something very nasty to a bully at school - found myself questioning what i did for years afterwards - was the 3 years of him being a pain justification enough for one sentence.... funny what hurts more eh.

What a tune!!!

However... you feel guilt. You're facing the consequences of something you did. Obviously you've learnt your lesson and won't do it again.

If possible, try and rectify the problem by doing something good in equal magnitude. If you did some VERY bad... do something VERY good that you wouldn't have done before.

Heck, we all make mistakes some time or another. It's part of life. The best lessons learnt are those learnt from mistakes. Trial and error... well you get the idea.

Well, lets see now, it could be Young Heartless Mothers or..... Yellow Headed Monsters or....Youths Hate Maturity.
Someone has suggested to me that it might even mean You've Got Mail, but I better e-mail them to find out!

Seriously Carl,
the interpretation of your conscience is a devastatingly difficult thing to master sometimes; something that you can feel bad about, would not be given a second thought by others.
So you have to share this thing with someone you know you can trust not to betray your confidence, and who is wise enough to give you the correct advice or guidance to enable you to resolve what is troubling you.
If you do that it will help put things in perspective and you may find that what you did was not really that awful, and more importantly, you will be able to repair the damage.

interesting thoughts my fellow ph'er(s). I know a lot of people would not consider it bad, or even wrong. But it's just something that makes me think less of myself, and that is quite enough to make it a big deal to me.

I won't bore you folkes with the details at this point, but I am interested in any further thoughts you may have. It all helps, even if some of you are crazy degenerates.
