It may be slang, but it's still a word just like any other. You could just as well ban the word 'Vanquish' or anything else. There are loads of other crappy, pointless words used about twice a milennium, 'sanguinery', for example. Why pick on 'Chav'?

'Chav' is a word for certain people everyone understands. If we banned it, I'd say Scally, scousers would say Townie, Scottish people would say Ned, Geordies would say Charver, people from the South West would say Pikey, Essex PHers would still refer to Chavs and I've heard Brummies call them Skangers.

Chav? It's universal...

Agree with Father Ted. Once the media get hold of something and do it to death, it alienates me from things. I am the same with TV progs which are heavily promoted - don`t want to watch them.

Yorkshire people call them Herberts. How cool Pikeys are a bit different as they're thieving arsed travellers. Round here chavs'd be called Townies.

Someone told me that it came from Cheltenham Girls' School and it referred to the yobbish men who tried to chat them up, so they became known as Cheltenham halves, or Chavs.

I hate the word (see...i didn't say it...) because of its over-use in daily life.....turn on the radio and its' 'Oh that's so C......' turn on the TV ' this is the latest in C wear.......at work ' did you see that website 'Cscum .co.uk?'......fook me it's boring!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yes it's a word......but jeez give it a rest!

i found myself getting embroiled in the McDonalds is for Cs debate thinking.....'WTF am i doing debating the social acceptance level for using McDs for?'.......all set off by the word C

yeah it was topical/mildy funny last year ....lets put it to bed along with the likes of 'minger','downsizing','whatever','that's SO not.....', 'absolutely' and 'let's do lunch'(still going strong)

the word 'and' is used a lot but seems to find its way into daily conversation without much effort and without nauseus irritation......and i think that is good........good is a nice word too......nice is okay but is a bit fluffy......fluffy on the other hand reminds me of my belly button.......my belly is quite hungry.....must go for a Maccy Ds with the

CHAVS!

when i was a kid,'c**v' was something you called someone who wore crap clothes or had a shit haircut, then when i was a teen that word was used to define a pikey....and when i knew some people in colnebrook, berks they refered to each other as 'chavvy'...i.e "ere, thaaaats that chaaaavy baastard roy!".

i prefer to use the term 'dimlow','dipshit','dimbutt' or 'flossy' when talking about these pitsea market fashion victim sheep.
