Just ordered a washing machine over the phone and tried to pay by credit card. The appliance is going to an address in Brighton but I live and the credit card is registered at my address in Malta. Guy on the phone says he can’t deliver to a different address to that which the credit card is registered to and I’ll have to send a cheque by post with a covering letter instead. What’s that all about then?

Is that Empire Direct by any chance? My other half had the same problem with them. It's to do with fraud prevention.

Call your CC company and ask them to add the other address to your card. No problems then.

What you have to remember is that CNP (cardholder not present) transactions are entirely at the retailers risk. You nick a card, phone through and order something and have it delivered to a moody address and the retailers stuffed.

I see. Makes sense now you've all explained it. Bit of an inconvenience though.

The fact you're card is registered in a different country isn't going to help either

But, as someone else said, you can get an additional address added to the card
