Can anyone point me in the direction of the best mobile phone deals going at the moment? I'm returning to the UK at the end of the month and want to start a new contract but carrying over the old number on my existing Orange contract. (Figure that as an existing customer on a pay-as-you-go-plan they won't be as generous as those offering me a new contract.)

Some of the web sites (Dial a Phone) seem to offer good deals but who to go for and which networks are people happy with these days?

lots of questions... all answers gratefully received,

Chris

The old phones have poor battery life but the new ones are better. And 3 are the cheapest I've seen.

Buy it from www.mobileshop.com

Got an absolute caning in the press just before Christmas, coverage didn't seem to be that good in out lying areas, ok up M1 corridor and London.

Would be mostly London/SE so maybe not too bad.

3 are well know for dropping calls, poor coverage and problems when moving from a 3g to 2g area...

I know two mates on 3 and neither would recommend them and will be changing network provider asap...

Is this in London by any chance? As long as it works there, I could use my Orange Pay as you go as backup further afield.

Yeah this is London (East), but they both have problems in Essex and the City as well...

Any of the main networks online services are the best deals. Most offer around 200 cross-network, anytime minutes plus 500 texts for £30 or, if you are a student you can take advantage of the orange online student offer of 200 cross-network anytime min's and 1000 texts for £30!

Get a 3 phone.

The problem has been in the past, when the network was just starting out, the technology was brand new and it had issues. Now the latest phones have much better software and dropped calls (from 2g-3g) are a thing of the past. Ok there are still some issues, but most of the time you only hear about the bad stuff in the press. You can't be beaten for the tariffs though.

I bought my latest phone from them. Seem to be part owned or have some major affilliation with CarphoneWarehouse. The only downside was that they signed me up for an insurance contract which I did not want.
