One for the medics, reflux in infants???
Discussion
Advice please folks....
My daughter today was diagnosed with having reflux. This was following a beryum(sp??) swallow which was a horrible experience as she is 22 months so I had to hold her down.
The doctor and radiological/nursing staff were great, no complaints there.
However, she doesn't sleep more than 2 hours at a time, but is a generally happy nipper.
My questions are, what can we do to ease the problems. We put one sachet of gaviscon in her milk prior to her going to sleep but that is it. No-one has given us any advice on how to deal with it, and we have to wait until Mid februrary for the paediatrician appointment to follow it up. We eat sensibly, but can diet affect it?, what is a good diet, and her habitually being hoarse, is this a symptom?? How can we ease the problems....
Thanks for the advice in advance because we are reaching the end of our tether with sleep torture. It must be worse for her. At least we don't have any pain!

GERD stands for Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease. Gastroesophageal reflux describes a backflow of acid from the stomach into the swallowing tube or esophagus. This acid can irritate and sometimes damage the delicate lining on the inside of the esophagus. Almost everyone experiences gastroesophageal reflux at some time. The usual symptom is heartburn, an uncomfortable burning sensation behind the breastbone, most commonly occurring after a meal. In some individuals this reflux is frequent or severe enough to cause more significant problems, that is a disease. Thus, gastroesophageal reflux disease is a clinical condition that occurs when reflux of stomach acid into the esophagus is severe enough to impact the patient’s life and/or damage the esophagus.
