I had heard reports that the sea actually remained largely unaffected out in the deeper parts, indeed there was only a 3cm rise/fall according to some scuba divers so the chances that these "magically rose from the depth" due to the water surge seemed rather unlikely.

There was a minute chance some of them came via the earthquake. however, thats quite slight

Still, interesting pictures regardless of the truth behind them!

The others look pretty tasty, but this one,was it harpooned by a Japanese whaler? or would that be wishful thinking?

Apparently the wave base runs along the sea floor, its a massive wave, but just underwater, but as it approaches a beach it rears up and then actually looks like a 'wave'.

Hence little effect in deep sea, but devestating on a shore line.

Explains where that ugly motherfer with a face like my ex girlfriends mother came from

Isn't this one of those Angler fish thingys?? I thought that they were deep sea fish? They would have been unaffected by the Tsunami as they live in the deep trenches??

Edit to add pic.

Remarkable. I remember reading somewhere that boffins believe there could be as many species underwater that we still don't know about as there are that are known on the planet in their entirety.
How would they know this though?

And they can't live in shallow water because they would have serious survival problems, they are designed for very high water pressure depths only.

Maybe sucked up from from a deep bit of ocean.

No more, or less suprising, than say "Harry"
In full Hapsburg national costume, parading about as
royal familly youth really, having been dredged up from the depths.

Turns out he was in Rommels Desert uniform for a WWII fancy dress party. Ill choice of costume but hardly as bad as turning to a "fancy dress" party without the WWII connection.

Anyway fish

The fourth one down looks like it could have come "from the bottom of a dark Scottish Lake"!
