I have a good friend who used to work in the prison service and was paid off,he has just told me he is going for a job as a dental nurse,to which my reaction was to take the complete pi55,after a bit of thought I feel a bit bad,he has a wife n kids etc etc..

Is it a bit gay ? , or am I in the dark ages..,I think the term 'nurse' is for females.. what do you think ?

Historically nurses were male until that upstart Nightingale.

When my mum was in Christies with cancer there was an excellent ex army nurse. I dont think he would like it if you called him gay

Indeed.

Isn't it funny how perceptions change? Florence Nightingale broke with tradition and flied in the face of popular expectation by becoming a nurse, and now only a few hundred years later we have a belief that being a male nurse is "fu**ing gay" (sorry VTEC_DOHC, I'm not picking on you specifically even if I am quoting your post).

Funny old world.

Male or female, gay or straight, hospital, dental or whatever, be thankful that we have nurses. It's not a job that everyone could do, it's low paid and very often literally a sh1tty one. Appreciate the fact that when you get ill, there will be someone that is prepared to look after you.

Both my Dental Surgeon and Dental Nurse are male, I have no idea if they are gay or straight, infact the thought has never crossed my mind.

They are both far better than my previous who have always been female.

I was just having a laugh. My sense of humour doesn't seem to come across too well on t' internet.

I'm pretty open minded about things like this anyway. If he wants to take up that career decision, it's up to him. Good on the man.

I'm not entirely sure about male dentists... I just have a phobia about men being within kissing distance when I'm laid out

I guess I'm just old fashioned

I Dont have a problem at all. After all lots of dentists are male so what makes it that much different!

I know a couple of Male Midwives and none are gay...or pervs. Most are married and have a house full of kids theirselves. Very few women are bothered as most of the obstetritions and gynaecologists are male.

Given that, according to my mother, childbirth is like being 'split down the middle with a rusty penknife and a blowtorch', I don't think you'd CARE who was looking as long as they gave you pethidin...

My Doctor was a nurse in the military and used his G.I.bill to go back to school to become a G.P. The auto/diesel tech school I'm attending has about 20 females out of about 2000 students at this campus and I applaud it.

It is rather strange seeing a woman climb down from the controls of a Fighter plane however.
