Just found a great video of a Su35 doing its airshow stuff:

http://bemil.chosun.com/movie%20link/SU-35.wmv
Big file (12MB), but more than 6 minutes footage.

Since there are so many airplane fans around here, probably some of you would like the big russian warbirds. Certainly they're some of the most beautiful machines ever created.

Yeap, and one of the earlier ones (number 05 as it says in the can ).

The bottom one is actualy a Su-37, before it was converted back in a Su-35 ... Better not to get stuck in Sukhoi naming schemes, they are a nightmare.

Spitfires are beautiful

I reckon the Fulcrum's better looking though. Quite similar planes aren't they? In roles I mean?

If i likened planes to cars, then Concorde would be a Lamborghini Espada and the Spitfire would be a vintage 'blower' Bentley.

The flanker would be like a hyper-aggressive muscle car in a movie chase - you wouldn't want it in your rear-view mirror.

If only they confused the CAA....so, if we can operate
an Su-29 out of a grass strip near Maidenhead, why
can't we do the same with an Su-27...it's two less,
surely? (Although replicating the prop-hanging
antics our local Sukhoi owners go in for in a '27
might increase the number of noise complaints...a bit.)

Yeah! The Flanker is bigger in dimensions, range and speed if my memory serves me correctly?

The Fulcrum was designed to take on the F16 and the Flanker was designed to take on the F15?
Correct. And they were both made in agreement with the specs given to Mig and Sukhoi by the central aerodynamics institute in Moscow, hence the similar shape.

if you put the Mig up against the Sucky ......it will look fat and dumpy due to shorter fuselage/fins and (ass-dragging style)undercarriage.......the Sucky is far more impossing/menacing when close up on the ground.....and on a slightly sillier note the Suckys are as close as we get to a 'real-life' Firefox ala Clint.....

Bring back Mig 25 Foxbats and 31 Foxhounds i say!

Ah, for sheer bruteness there's nothing like the old 25 in bare metal (and rust).

What About the B70 Valkryie? It's what the Foxbat was designed to counter and is probably the US's TSR2

Nice ones. The Russians still make the best fighters to date.

One of the Sukhois' latest radar is so powerful it can litterally grill anyone who happens to be in its "research cone" if said plane is flown at max speed.

Now that is MIGHTY impressive. Can you imagine what it must be like to do those vertical drop manoeuvres!!? Thanks for posting it Nuno.

Must go and watch my Top Gun DVD again now....

What I'd like to see next is some footage of the Viggen in action - and the EuroFighter promo film that BAe Systems showed at the Farnborough airshow last year. That'll be a challenge for someone... any takers?
