Help!

We are having some building work, the nice people next door have allowed us
to shove some scaffolding up in their garden. Alas the scaffolding is
interfering with their satellite reception.

Is there any way that I can clad the scaffold in something to stop it
interfering with the reception?

Here are some links so you can see what I'm talking about.

Moving it is not really an option.

Thanks

A satellite dish needs a direct line of site with the satellite, so perhaps one or more of those scaffolding poles are blocking it? Hard to tell from the pics.

Maybe you could arrange for an installer to come round and move it, so it it anchored on the outside of the scaffolding. Then when your work is finshed get it moved back. Maybe £60 a time.
A small price to pay to keep them sweet, and keep the scaffolding where it is??

stig's right. If you can't move the scaffolding you'll have to move the dish.

It's not as quite simple as moving it yourself and twizzling it round until you get a decent picture. It needs to be proerly aligned.

It's a 10 minute job for an aerial man. You'll find one in yellow pages.

Don't use Sky's Technical men - they'll charge a minimum £60 call our fee

Alternatively you can do it yourself with one of these

Thanks for that, I might get one of those and do it myself as I would only be moving it a foot or so.

So I could buy another dish of ebay for £10, shove that on the scaffolding, align it with the maplins thingy and hey presto....?

Mmmm...in theory you could, but the LNB ( the thing in the middle of the dish to which the cable connects) has to be compatible with the Sky Box.

They are not all 100% interchangeable. You may find that it would work, but Sod's Law says that it won't. It's a bit of a gamble.

It would be easier to move the existing dish. It looks fairly vulnerabe to damage where it is now if there's work going on above it.

Its an offset dish. It may look as if its pointing at the poles, but its actually pointing right through the planking.

Therefore the only way to sort it is to either remove the planks of wood, or move the dish.

I've installed several satellite dishes over the years and aligned them perfectly by hand. You really need to have a portable TV on extension leads but it's just a case of waving it around until you see something and then tapping it very lightly until the bars peak. There is a few seconds delay in them updating so you just need to take it slowly.

The Sky monkeys often don't do a very good job so if you're going to pay dont bother with the standard £60 call-out - a local expert will do a better job for the same or less.

They are really quite easy to align, the sky digital boxes have a built in signal strength meter. We managed to align a standard size dish in LeMans. I’ve got the instructions some place, I’ll see if I can dig them out if you’re interested.
