OK - I'm hoping some of you PH-ers who are in the family way might be able to help.

BabyV6 has just turned 1 and is happily toddling all over the place. What she needs is some proper walking shoes that can be worn outdoors (as opposed to "crawlers", "cruisers" and their equivalents - not enough support and too flimsy for outdoor use).

Unfortunately she has very small feet (Clarks measured them as 2 1/2 F) and nobody seems to do anything but crawlers in this size. Start-Rite do have one single pair in that size, but as they come up large they're too big at the moment (slip right off her feet when done up as tight as possible).

Anybody know of a specialist shop in/around Bristol where they might do proper shoes this small?

TIA

Pete

Theres a place on the web that sells soft shoes that are apparently recommended by various child development types. They come in all sizes but even with the recommendations I wasnt sure.

We have the exact opposite issue. The little'un is 4.5H and we cant seem to find shoes for her anywhere...

That Doc Martens shop by the Arches does some neat little boots - not sure if they go quite as small as you want but they look small to me.

Careful though - some dodgy characters live around there.

Have you tried Russell & Bromley? They may have some. Or a £3 pair of wellies from Woolies?

I did suggest that to the assistant at Clarks... who looked down her nose at me (a bit difficult when she's kneeling on the floor, but she managed it)

I thought Start-Rite do an 'H' fitting?

Clarks do as well, but only it seems 1 pair in 50,000

There isnt a single pair of 4.5H shoes at any shop in Bucks, Berks or Oxon...

That's unfortunate

Our local Clarks in Haywards Heath are helpful in that if they haven't got the size in a particular style you want in stock, they'll phone the Hove branch to see if they have the same pair of shoes and then you're given the choice of having them put to one side or getting them sent up.

Pete, have you thought of popping down to Street (the town that is) as there's the Clarks Village there which is supposed to be a bit of a mecca for shoe fans. They have a large factory outlet there so might be able to find something?

Nice thought mate but unless there's other brands than Clarks there, its a non-starter as Clarks don't do shoes smaller than a 3 (according to Clarks in The Mall and John Lewis, anyway).

Problem solved - MrsV6 was advised by a friend to try a different place in The Mall (can't remember the name of the shop).

Anyway, they re-measured BabyV6's feet very carefully and came up with a size of 3F. Therefore, she's now the proud owner of a pair of Clarks smallest walking shoes.

Needless to say the other outlets won't be getting any more business from us, but this place will.

How bizzare.

We got sorted yesterday too, one of the local shops we visited got onto Clarks headquarters in the time since we visited them and they sent a load of shoes to the shop and then called 'er indoors.

Not really. I no longer use the local Clark's but one 13 miles away. The difference, 30 years of experience by the fitter/shop assistants and not a 16 year old who's only undergone the 1 day training and then refuses to exchange them for the right size/width because they've been worn once Quite often found at a large baby outlet at weekends.

Young kids feet need careful measurement in length and width. With shoes at £30 a pair generally, you want to get it right first time.
