New York for a week?
Discussion
Any time in New York is worth it - I'm there every few weeks and love it. A week in one hotel would be tedious so may be think about two hotels in different parts of the city. Hugely invigorating city with seemingly unlimited energy and diversity. Can be pretty cold at this time of the year - snow today and minus 15 degrees forecast by the end of the week.
www.ny.com/sights/ is a great starting point to plan sightseeing - info on opening times, prices etc.
Save yourself a bunch of $ by using supershuttle to get from/to the airport. Book it online at supershuttle.com. Standard cab fare to Manhattan from the airports is $45 plus tolls plus tip, so you're looking at $55-60.
Be prepared to spend a lot of money - especially if you want to drink/eat in the "glossy" venues or close the main attractions. Service is generally 15% but upto 20% is commonly given - maybe it's the easier math!
Take an empty suitcase and fill it with clothes and cameras - some great deals with the current exchange rate, but watch for the grey imports with Japanese packaging and photocopied english manuals!
Have fun!

4 days is enough in my opinion.
It's such a hectic place I came back knackered!
I recommend a "room only" basis if you are right in the centre.
We got up in the mornings, showered and went straight out, not returning til late at night. So many places to eat there.
The statue of liberty was closed off to tourists when we were there, but I think it's open again now?
