Huge Rise In Global Tsunami Death Toll
The worldwide tsunami death toll has risen dramatically to more than 225,000 after a huge surge in Indonesia's total.

Health officials in the country said it now had 166,320 confirmed deaths - a jump of more than 50,000 on the previous total.

The regions of Aceh and Sumatra, which were directly in the path of the tsunami, are largely responsible for the higher figures.

A spokesman for the health ministry said the new total also included many people who had been listed as missing.

The exact figure now stands at 226,566.

Officials concede that because of the extent of the disaster, the true number of dead in the country may never be known.

Indonesia is by far the worst-affected of the 11 countries hit by the waves on Boxing Day.

But the government believes it can rebuild some of the most severely-hit areas within a month.

:: In Britain, 274 people are thought to have died, Prime Minister Tony Blair told Parliament, down from more than 400 last week.

Fairy Liquid have been rushing emergency supplies to the area due to the thousands washing up on the beaches

Santa didn't stop to give presents in Sumatra this year...he just flew over and gave them a wave

so that's the door over here, eh? Lucky I already had my coat on then.
