Just had my old violin from school valued... £4800!!!

As much as it pains me to part with it, there's a decent wads worth there, that I am not making use of! So I am upsetting my father and getting rid.

Have you got an instrument (or anything else for that matter) lurking in your loft that might be worth a bit? Or have you sold one from your school days?

Just interested. x

You could lend it to the Benslow Musical Instrument Loan Scheme so gifted young musicians who cannot afford a good instrument get the benefit of one.

If I found out a musical instrument I had was worth that, I'd use it as it's maker had intended. There's something very cool about using it and not just locking it away in a cupboard... unless you really REALLY need the money... (it's like driving a ferrari to work every day, for instance)

I'm keeping my Viola, might be tempted to take it up again oneday, finding one that fits is always difficult, always regretted selling my Saxaphone.

Good price, who's the maker?

And does the school still know you have their violin

I feel I have a decent ear for music, love my HiFi, into guitars etc.

To me a £5 or £500k violin still sounds like a cat being strangled coupled with nails being drawn down a blackboard. I'm sure theres a difference of the timbre of the catscreetch but its not for me.

Sell up, drink half, spend the other half on a decent cd player...

W.E. Hill and Sons, C. 1909.

And I've decided to sell it because I have another one worth more that is full size. I would never go without one all together

Which bit, is your question directed to, finding one that fits?

I have never found two Violas to be the same, even if they are by the same maker, I've had a selectiond of bows over the years and it took me a long time find one that suited me.

Or regretting selling the Sax?

I loved my Saxaphone, sold it to help finance a divorce settlement, unlikely to be able to find one of the same quality at a price I can afford.

I've got a couple of violins and a few bows. Might be tempted to sell them. Never really thought about till now though.

Having not played for 4 years there is not much chance of me taking it back up in the near future. I just didn't enjoy it all of a sudden so stopped. I think it's one of those situations where having done it for ages as thats what you did, it didn't occur to me that i could just stop if i wanted. As soon as I could sit back and think about whether I still enjoyed it or not, I decided I didn't.

Be worth a few pennies and could get me a long way towards putting a deposit on a house. Thinking of which, i'm off to the estate agents...
