I thought women were supposed to be the more sociable sex? That they had better social interaction skills than men and bonded with people more easily?

Not the ones in my new apartment block aren’t. I’ve just moved into a block of ten flats. I’ve met most of the neighbours now. They are all couples – I’m single. Most of them don’t seem to be my kind of people at first glance – different age group background etc but I always make an effort to be polite and have a chat when we bump into each other in the hallway. All the blokes seem to be fine – “Hi Gary, How’s it going? Settling in OK?” etc. The women on the other hand are the most miserable bunch of cows I’ve come across (no puns please ). I’m lucky to get a grunt of acknowledgement from them let alone them stopping for long enough to exchange one or two sentences. Sheesh… don ‘t know why I bother

It's the same in my Hall of residence at uni. I don't know everyone that well (there are hundreds of us!) but most of the guys acknowledge you and ask how it's going. Most of the girls just grunt!

They'll be keeping you at arms length in case you want to run off with their partner. Try looking a bit more nerdy and less cool and attractive. Worked for me...but then I am nerdy and unattractive.

It's because they're now expected to have careers, and pee standing up, instead of doing what comes naturually, ie cooking, kittens and embroidery. Trust me, it worked since the dawn of time.

I may now have to emigrate, but you know I'm right

Eh? I'm a fella, the other fellas are friendly enough it's the women that are being miserable. Unless the women are afraid I'm going to run off with their partners – which I’m not. I hope I don't look that camp!

I don't buy into any gender-stereotypes, but one thing I find is that the women take one look at me and assume immediately that all I'm interested in is getting my leg over. If I just be myself, ie sociable and friendly, they assume I'm being creepy and slimy.

Thing is, the girls who've actually given me a chance have gone on to become some of my closest friends, but IMO I've missed out on some other potential friendships - and even relationships - because I've had assumptions made about me and people have perceived me as untrustworthy when any friend will tell you I'm one of the most trustworthy, honest, 'clean' people you could know.

'Women's intuition'. Sorry, don't buy it.

Have to agree, get the same thing when I tell women what I do for a living... maybe they expect me to rob their granny or slip her some arsenic so I can sell her house?

Who knows, and I can only guess what the reaction will be when I tell them I'm a Property developer... they'll suspect all of the above and accuse me of buying granny's bungalow for peanuts and building a car park on it

And as for the F360 parked outside the Pub... I won't stand a chance!

It did occur to me that maybe they think I’m coming onto them when I try to start a conversation because they know I’m single and younger than them. But I’m not, and it’s a pretty sad reflection of their attitude IMHO if that is the case. It’s not like I even get far as striking up a conversation so there’s no possibility of anything I say getting misconstrued.

I know exactly what you mean. I just find myself silently screaming 'Gimme a chance! I won't hurt you!' but I don't.

Oh well, I've got no time for such superficial people, though I do wonder sometimes what enticing personalities are hiding behind the facades.

All my neigbours have been really nice.. and fit.

Thier boyfriends are more suspicious of the young good looking guy living next door to them.

But he's the other side so i have'nt met him

Sounds like you may have a serious personal hygiene or appearance problem. That's why the guys are being friendly, they see you as no threat whatsoever.

However, in general, women tend to be more concerned with appearance than men and this could perhaps explain their reaction.

At this stage, this is merely conjecture.

What you need to do is take a long hard look in the mirror, then ask yourself this simple question

" Am I whiffy"
