Taxi advice- for women ,seen on watchdog
Discussion
Just a good bit of advice that might do someone some good.
With all the dodgy cabbies about that when getting in a cab, they said a good idea to take a pic with ya photo phone of the cabs reg number & text it to a mate.
Just thought also it would be a good idea if you have a photophone to do the same with the cabbies face & text it on.
If they dont like it, FFS don't get in the cab!

A new safety system to ensure folk are using a safe taxi is to be used by three town cab firms.
The new reservation system, labeled Where2Guv, aims to take the risk out of booking a cab, especially for females in the run up to Christmas.
Launched nationwide, Where2Guv in the UK's first online and and text reservation system.

“A SUSSEX firm is hoping to reduce the danger of people getting into illegal cabs. Where2Guv, based in Hailsham, hopes its innovative booking system will come into force in Eastbourne next month. The scheme is designed to reassure customers they are getting a driver from a reputable firm. Customers first register their details on an Internet site and then order cabs by test messaging or through the www.where2guv.com web site. After the booking system has logged the call, it sends back a text message letting the customer know their cab has arrived. Only licensed firms will be allowed to register on the site.”

I heard the best way around using any unliscensed cab firm is to always use a firm you know to be reputable, but when the cab arrives, you go to the driver's window (in a group so he can't just open the door, grab you and drive off) and say 'Who's this cab for?'. If they don't come out with your name then they're obviously not genuine (or not your cab - either way, everyone comes up tops.)

Equally, that would be a good idea for the cabbie too, take a pic of every fare in case they dont want to pay up, or they rob the cabbie. If the fare doesnt want their picture taken, they can walk.
Some of our local cabs have hidden cameras in them that record any troublemakers so the cabbie can just give the tape straight to the Police no questions asked if there was an 'incident'.
I am a reputable private hire driver, and the prospective passenger must always tell me their name before I pick them up. They can always say 'Yes' to any name I say! When given the correct name, I will tell them the destination as confirmation for the booking. Only then will I allow them into the car. As usual all the fuss is in the passengers interest. Far more drivers than passengers are subject to drunken, drugged abuse, robbery, runners and attacks etc.
I was once pouring a female worse for wear friend into a cab and noticed the driver lear at her scantily dressed drunkeness.
I simply offered the said cabbie £10 to take her home, the carrot (£4 trip), and warned I would eat his heart in front of his face if he so much as touched her, the stick.
Worked a treat, cabbie got a good tip, friend got home safe. Job done.

Mine have CCTV installed and big letters on the windows saying it`s there. Drivers have reported a huge decrease in misbehaviour.
