Following on from the "Da Vinci Code" thread.
What is everyone reading at the moment?
Recently finished:
"The Algebraeist" - Iain M. Banks - really good.
"Working The Wheel" - Martin Brundle - quite good.
At the moment I'm reading the first book in "The Last Chronicles of Thomas Covenant", "The Runes of the Earth" (IIRC) by Stephen Donaldson. Clearly it was about time to make some more money.
But the book has started well..if in the usual fashion.

Does anybody know of an "official" timeline that places the Culture (and semi-Culture, as I believe this one to be... post-Culture, maybe?) novels in relation to one another?
Prior to that, "Angels and Demons" by Dan Brown. Again, liked it but had a similar problem in that the "twist" was a bit too obvious.
Currently reading "The Whaleboat House" (author escapes me) - was a bit of a random selection at Smiths. Looking ok so far.

Didn't realise he'd resurrected that series. Probably end up reading it for the sake of completeness anyway. I always find the 1st half of the 1st book in each trilogy to be slow going and a bit unecessary. Cut to the chase, man, we know the back-story by now!
Just started to read "The Da Vinci Code" and first impressions are very good.
Got Richard Morgans "Woken Furies" (excellent sci-fi/cyberpunk) pre-ordered ready for March and the next Harry Potter on pre-order ready for the summer.
Just finished "Blue Horizon" by Wilbur Smith, which despite being very good, wasn't quite up to the standard of the previous two books in the series.

a big selection of literature theory and medieval stuff for my masters. If I had time to read and was reading something else it would be the Philip Pullman trilogy "Dark materials", just for fun an easy reading. Recently got a book studying the figure of Arthur in myth and literature "The Arthur of the English" which I'd like to be reading too, and the "Mabinogion" is also waiting for me on the shelf.

Perfume - Patrick Suskind.
Pretty gruesome and slightly erotic book about a bloke in C18th France who goes around killing young girls to capture their smell. - slightly disturbing, but I kept reading!
Also, The Pianist. Simple wording, but a story and a half, and far better than the film IMHO.

Just finiahed Stephen King's 'Dreamcatcher' and wondered why I bothered...
Now well into Dune, a book I started reading years ago and never got around to finishing. Enjoying this one thoroughly, and plan to read the rst of the series. Anybody know if the resst are as good as the first?
