Pompous self righteous git...
Discussion
Well, am I?
There are so many threads upon which to comment, like the 'Should I or shouldnt I' about playing away. Then there is just plain having a different point of view of course and posting what you think. There are political threads to join in on. Then there are arguments with folks who are just reacting to poor media journalism, without any deep thinking. So many of the 'Labour and EU bashing for the sheer hell of it' posts really hack me off too, especially when the story actually has nothing to do with that anyway. On those threads I wont even bother posting.
But just lately I feel like I am some moralistic pompous self righteous git in almost everything that I do post. It is like I am playing devils advocate in going against the grain of the majority of PHers' who to me look like they are just following the media in condemnation of things or blame the government if their car wont start. It is like every headline is a red rag to a bull, followed by a series of kneejerk reaction posts, when actually it was all bollox in the 1st place so no need to argue a made up story anyway.
It is starting to worry me. I get drawn in none the less. PH is not good for me.

Hey.
[zaphod paraphrase]
If anyone is more of a pompous self-righteous git than me I want them shot!
[/zaphod paraphrase]
I, quite often, have a very different P.O.V. to the mainstream. For example - I actually think that Applemunch Girl got what was coming to her (very likely - although I wasn't there and therefore can never be certain).
I think that's healthy, myself!
So I positively encourage you to disagree!

Bliarout....the girl who got fined for eating an apple while driving (there's a thread in GG i think...EATING WHILE DRIVING).
I love debate - I think it is very healthy, and so having differing views is a GOOD thing. So long as people don't take differing views as offensive, or indeed get too passionate about them to resort to pettyness, then it is very healthy indeed

These are the ones that hack me off most - read tabloid - blurt out tabloid crap as truth - it real annoys me. I used to pile in on every one trying to set the world to rights, I've since realised that I don't really care if other people are daft and leave em to it...
Great quote last night from Rock Family Trees (Yes).
Rick Wakeman - accused of being "a pompous self indulgent git doing all those runs and twiddly bits" returned fire with a big grin and 'yeah. great innit?' which I thought was magic

I don't particularly care for the liberal attitudes which occassionally interrupt the refreshing flow of unapologetically right wing diatribes that joyously characterise PH.
For heaven's sake, PH is the ultimate catharsis for many, in a country wherein the default media condition is fundamentally centrist of inclination.
Where else can people bathe in the reciprocal glow of gross frustration and palpable injustice that until you actually discover PH, suspects does exist in a broader context within the private thoughts of millions across Albion but is barely expressed, indeed, probably surpressed by the ironically fascistic propoganda of our self-appointed social engineers at the BBC HQ?
By articulating the concerns and fears of many, PH delivers a critical shot of support into the bloodstream of the mighty and suggests that hope, whilst dimmed to near extinction, is not totally forlorn and that a salvation of sorts, may just be achievable...
Bollocks to the milk-livered and up the irons, what?

No, you're fine just the way you are.
Sometimes I dispair at how off topic some of the posts get, sometimes I am more than just a little guilty myself. Sometimes people make an ill-thought through comment, that is the nature of the beast.
For me PH is like a one massive pub full of groups of people talking about whatever. Sometimes we end up talking B:censorde:ks and other times we make vaild points that can alter another's point of view.
I'll bet I come across as pompous and self righteous from time to time but I thnik most of us are guilty of that from time to time. Doesn't always make our points any less valid

Nothing wrong with your posts.
Just do not expect too much from people you read from as not everybody has the time to commit themselves into thoughtful debates, it's as simple as that.
Anyway if the PH forums were the online equivalent of the Royal Society we would have known about it for a pretty long time, right ?

No, I don't think you're a pompous self-righteous git at all.
I think that PH works best with a bit of balance to it. Sometimes I get a bit hacked off when the posts polarise into on one hand "string 'em all up, send 'em all back, castrate 'em, kill everyone", and on the other hand "in the name of liberalism, let's have complete anarchy and allow everyone to do exactly whatever they want because morals no longer matter", and I feel like there's no point posting unless you're prepared to join one of the two sides.
Other than that, I think PHs best qualities are common sense, rationalising through situations, 'doing the right thing' and allowing discussions free of the entanglements of Political Correctness - and by that I don't mean that we condone sexism, racism, homophobia etc, but that we have no qualms about 'judging' people and being honest with our opinions.
And if that makes you a pompous self-righteous git, then I'm one too, and so is most of PH.

Bravo. As the world goes mad, PH generally stays sane.

Look at the long threads with the contraversial subjects; hunting, drugs etc. Even if you maintain your original viewpoint, reading everyone elses opinions and experiences, can only enrich

Having only met you for the first time last Saturday you struck me as a damn fine chap who loves his cars, slightly right enough of centre for me to utterly empathise with your point of view.
With respect to PH being good or bad for you, in the light of my separation last year some of the most fiercely loyal and supportive people I count as my friends I met through PH.
See you at the next Midlands meet.
Cheers,
Greg
Regardless of its politics the PH forums generally I find contain some of the most intelligent and thoughtful contribution on the web.
Most forums are plauged with bloody idiots and illiterates. PH has found itself clear from these irksome netizens in the main.
I wholeheartedly agree with Gregs point about mates though, there are some truly lovely people lurking these hallowed pages...

Speak for yourself! Now, who was that git, again?
Oh yes, That'll be me!
