At the risk of only ever starting a new topic when I'm pissed off with something the BBC said or did....

I'm pissed off at something the BBC said this morning.

"and we British as Europeans have to bear responisbilty for the Holocaust".....

off...no we don't. Germans did it. Not Europeans, Germans.

They are in breach of their charter anyway so just don't pay (something to do with equal political representation and no political bias). There's a bloke in Cornwall who has told them this every year for ages, and they don't persue him for payment.

Cheers,
Matt.

There is an argument that Europe stood by and allowed the massive build up of military power by German pre 1939. We stood by and watched them segregate populations and allowed their facist views to be propogated..... we didnt stand up to them.

Then again - did we really know that a lone crazed Germie was going to initiate the single largest systematic mass-murder of a peoples the world has ever known? Hindsight is a wonderful thing and even now people find it hard to believe what happened, never mind actually being there and seeing / believing it...

The british government did have some proof of the death camps and Hitlers "final solution" by the early '40's, but we were engaged in a bitter and bloody world war in which the whole nation (and others) were engaged to bring down the Third Reich - cant see what else we could have done really? I mean, how many soliders died to stop that man?

So, agree - can I have mine back too?

I think what that comment was refering to was Britians failure to allow some Jewish People fleeing the Nazi's Political Asylum.

Glad to know in these modern times no politian would be silly enough to send people to their death by introducing quoters for Asylum Seekers.

You mean the

Biased Broadcaster of Crap- said something biased-what a surprise-

One solution could be that now we are in the digital age. the bBC could become a subscription channel that you have to voluntarily subscribe to.

If at the same time they split themselves into different channels it would be ideal. I would subscribe to BBC Sports and the odd documentary and they can take the rest of the crap the broadcast and stick it where the sun don't shine.

I think Stalin would be the one to hold that title.

Some of the French still are! I was told by a friendly old French chap recently in a village just outside Fougeres that he would rather see the Germans come back and occupy than all the English buying homes there!

If anything I'd refuse to pay the licence fee simply because there is something spineless about the BBC at the moment that means it can be manipulated to subliminally siding with the government on just about everything.

In the 1930s, if you didn't have an opinion against Nazism in Germany you were doing the world a disservice, even if the country disagreed with you. Similarly, the BBC just stands by whilst the government comes out with ridiculous ideas, and doesn't have the bottle to stand up to them in the way Channel 4 seems to be able to.

It's because of the unique way in which it's funded…

As I keep saying the BBC is a by-product of the licence fee. The Fee is a licence for a reciever and you can bet that the government would demand it anyway. The fact we also get a broadcaster is something the Government of the time thought was a good idea. You can bet they wouldn't do it today!

Perhaps I should also point out that one of the most controversial aspects of WW2, was the fact that the Allies never bombed Auschwitz or Birkenau (or the railway feed lines), despite having the military intelligence in early 1944 that they knew of it's existence, and had detailed knowledge of Hitler's "final solution"…

Perhaps now "we" do not seem quite so innoncent.

I'm not sure there'd be a German anywhere near the top of the list, there was an Austrian bloke though...

It doesn't matter if we should have been a bit more pro-active in handling Hitler...yes we should. But that's with hindsight.

The premise of the statement was that "Europe" gassed the Jews(and others) and we are Europe, so we did it.

And as for the allies bombing the camps...oh right..
We bomb the camp and kill the inmates...
The day after a new load is back in tents but this time they've painted targets on the roofs to help our aim.
