With Valentines approaching, I am wondering if perhaps I could have a question answered by you wise folks. I am planning on sending my new girlfriend a bunch of roses on the day, to her place of work. However, question time:

a) Is this just too much of a cliche now and b) even though we haven't been going out that long, though we have been friends for years, should I do something more?

I would prefer not to receive red roses, a little to cliche for me, something that expresses how well you know her.

I love old books plus it's something that lasts a life time.

Oh and a thoughtful card is better than a gift.

I personally find roses on VD a cliche and also very expensive. But that's me

A broad spectrum antibiotic usually works better too.

I'm with WedgeGirl and Mrs Fish, roses don't do it for me either. I'm a bit anti-Valentines anyway, it's just another one of those days that do nothing other than improve the balance sheet at Hallmark!

However, this is a completely different view to how I felt at, say 19 to 21.

i'm boycotting the roses to use for the money for return flights to Milan for the day. Early start for sure, but makes it that little more special.

And the rates ryanair charge, you'd be stupid not to try !?!?!

Buy her a rose bush!

Seriously, it goes down a treat!

And you get to say things like "Cut roses die and wither away, but now you can be reminded of our love all summer long and forever more"
When what you're actually thinking is "I'll never have to get fleeced on Valentine's Day by the florists ever again!"

P.S. If the wife everhappens to come across this post; I love you very much and you're too special for words and I didn't really buy you two rose bushes to save money to spend it on pies!

You do know that Ryanair fly in to Milan's Bergamo airport - which is quite a long way out of Milan centre.
This makes day-tripping quite a chore. A great idea though.

Edited to say it's an hour on the bus in to Milan itself....

Send her an A4 sized photo of your good self telling her that every day is valentines day (VD) with you

I've already started whining about what a commercial swiz valentines day is, so the other half doesn't expect anything special!
