Alcohol - just how fattening?
Discussion
Now we all no that
etc is fattening and gives you a 'healthy' sized gut, but what, if any, are the least fattening drinks?
I love going to the pub as much as the next guy/gal but I am becoming increasingly conscious that one day all this drinking will catch up with me.
What I don't what is to wake up one day and have a gut the size of a small planet!
So anybody know which drinks are going to lessen the chance of fattening me up or is it a losing battle?
Oh, and yes I do a bit of exercise when I can before anybody mentions that......................
Thanks in advance

Guiness has less calories than orange juice
Brilliant!
I'm only a little guy (in height and weight)
so not only will I be better off in the calorie dept but I will fall over after a pint
Vodka and diet coke seems like a good idea too as I can drink plenty of those and make it through the night!
How about shots? Are they okay?

theres loads of stuff on here about the effects on the body - just a shame beer tastes so nice isn't it?

I went out last saturday and decided I wasn't going to drink so stuck to pints of orange and lemonade as the healthy option
if only I knew!
I think that I'm going to try the gin and slimline tonic tonight and see how I get on.
Surely if I drink that for the next few months instead of lager then it will be better for me than lager
On a side note,
if I was to start having guiness for breakfast instead of a pint of milk then surely that's a good thing, right?
It doesn't mean that I've got a drink problem it just means that I'm on a diet

Fries?
that would be fattening!
I'm all excited about going to the pub now and it's only 09:48!
Obviously I'm only going for health reasons and not to get
Anybody else thinking about
that they will be doing tonight?
I for one can't wait and although I'm working tomorrow
it won't stop me enjoying a few bevvies tonight although I will probably not be thinking it was such a good idea come the morning

everyoneIt is not actually the alcohol that makes you fat.
In terms of which food groups most readily give up their energy when required (i.e.which you burn first) it is Alcohol, Carbs, Fats and then Protein.
As alcohol is burned before carbs you have to burn a hell of a lot more calories before you get to start on your fat reserves so you are likely to get fat because of the total calorie intake but also because your body will be running on alcohol and carbs rather than carbs and fat.
The sheer volume of beer distends the gut so stick with the shorts, red wine has been proven to restrict the absorbtion of fat when consumed with a meal.
Cider is pretty much the worst stuff you can drink
