The Actimel challenge advert seems to be on whenever I swtich on the TV. Products such as Actimel, Yakult, Activa etc are getting an increasing amount of shelf space in the supermarkets. Can someone tell me how a yoghurt based product can improve engergy levels in two weeks, as claimed? It seems like hype (utter utter bolloxs) to me, but I'm prepared to be educated.

Perhaps increased levels of good bacteria aid digestion and thus make you less lethargic....

Can you guess I'm not a doctor?

Just thought, you could go on a Crunchy Nut cornflake and Actimel diet for two weeks - drop a jean size and get more energy. Awesome...

Right, I'm off to Tescos....

because they help you in your digestion so that all your energy is not concentrated in your stomach to try and change those fish and chips or pizza of the night before into useful stuff for your body?
Have to acknowledge that we have 'em because they taste nice, but to my mind, a natural yogourt or Kefir (which is the un-posh version of the L.Casei Immunitas) works as well...

Apparently according to the danone site, the yoghurt is difficult for the gut to break down, as such the "good bacteria" remain in the gut for longer and help restore the natural balance of good bacteria within the gut and intestines, that reduce naturally over time and which takes the body time and energy to replace........God I'm bored at work today, must be to bother looking that info up.

I don't know anything about the science but if the advert is to be believed, it means a geeky looking guy can pull a rather attracive young lady just by talking about it to her!! Friendly bacteria indeed!!

So what's the difference between this expensive designer yoghurt with the medical sounding name, and the ordinary stuff that is sold by the gallon? Apart from the price.

I used to be a "geeky scientist" type, all the women were just frightened of me "Hey love, do you want some friendly protein?"

I bought some of that stuff once, the kids loved it. They went hyper so I suppose it must work.

Not recommended for kids.

which is better, l'casei immunitas, or bifidus digestivum

i don't mind healthy foods but really, the 'scientific' (so it must work!) names are ridiculous

I think the yogurty ones are pretty good myself; after all, l'casei immunitas actually exists.

The ones that get on my wick are the ones they make up for shampoo and "anti-ageing" creams.

Advert: "Contains usuckerflurobetnaziodrine to reduce dandruff/wrinkles" (delete as applicable)
Gullible Twit: "Ooooh, look, it contains usuckerflurobetnaziodrine, it must work."

Funny fact which can get you a day off work.

I was looking at this thinking about how good these things really are.

If you eat a piece of "Cordite" (1cm length of explosive from .22" rimfire cartridge) you actually go yellow, exhibiting the symptoms of jaundice A real cracker for getting a day off to go surfing!
