What's the premise? From what I've seen it sounds like the ending of LA confidential turned into a whole movie?

It is good
(LOVED LA Confidential too
) Oh yes, and it's the first film I've seen in ages where you don't see cars 'blow up' just for effect, as I said, it's a true adult thriller, as was LA Confidential

I'm a big fan of the origonal John Carpenter film so I'm not going to rush out and see this one.
The Orogonal is often regarded as a cult classic, I don't know about that I just know I like it.
I find too often re makes are very poor, especialy if they try and bring the story "up to date"

I agree, I too am a massive fan of the original, the same for the original Dawn of the Dead, but both remakes are very good and well worth watching.

A great detective thriller. The last time I can remember a lead character getting killed halfway through the story (Kevin Spacey - a great death moment) was Hitchcock's Psycho, where the story shifted complete emphasis from the victim (Janet Leigh in the shower) to the killer.
Indeed, we have the DVD
, quite a few people in the new Assault film get 'pooped off' also, which was a bit shocking, but, at the same time, refreshing! if you know what I mean! lolI quite liked the elements you liked (it was a bit gory, didn't dumb down the action/hide what you saw), but come-on the dialog and everything was terrible. The premise behind it seemed to be "I'm a cop, look how great I am", the acting was laughable and the characters in there sucked.
Still I laughed quite a bit, was shocked a few times (
can we really be shown that anymore?
) and enjoyed it last night. Oscar chance? Never, not even a slight glimmer of hope it is that bad. Reasonable entertainment? Quite possibly!

this one starts with a drug deal going bad between Ethan Hawke & this guy, ends up in a large shootout with most dying and very gruesome head shots.
Ok its a completely differet story. the origonal starts when a little girl is shot in the chest at an icecream van. In a botched robery as I recal. the father is then chased to a closing down police station which is then surrounded and attacked.

The weather is so bad they head to the Police Station which is closing down for an overnight stop and it is seiged by other Policemen.
Fairly standard stuff with "arm the prisoners" and cunningly they all get along together after some tense moments...
The original was a classic suspense filled film.....from the shock of the little girl getting extra rasberry sauce with her ice-cream through to the desolate/desparate feeling of isolation of the cops/prisoners in the police station to the relentless attacks........top film score too!
haven't any of the big film producing companies got any original ideas these days?

I'm up for this one too.
at 41, this film came out at the right time, with the Nasty culture just coming over from the states when i was in my teens.
as the "Dawn of the Dead" remake was just as suprising as the original was, all those years ago, i have to give this one a try.
and the music (one track all the way thru) was compsed by john carpenter himself, so i'm sure that will have gone. shame, it generated alot of tension over the course of the film.
we won't mention "Rollerball" and thank god they have enough sense to leave "Enter the dragon" alone!
oh yes...and a big
for "Shaun of the dead"
