I posted this in the Midlands forum but I think somebody must have dropped a bomb in that place. No replies.

Yeah, Coventry, whats it like? I'm gonna be going there to study next year and wondered if it is still the dump everyone seems to think it is. The university would like to think otherwise obviously but I would value some other opinions.

Cheers

Shouldn't you have decided if you liked Coventry before you joined

Im re-applying after leaving Northumbria. Ive realised that to me the course is more important than the place, just wanted to find out how bad the place really was.

Germans in WW2 flattened most of it.

And then the 1960's town planners finished the rest of it off.....

God forsaken place with a nightmare of concrete from end-to-end. Sooner they start again the better.....

Oh, and if no one knew, the official tag line for Coventry is now "the city of international reconcilliation". Eh?

the way to get the best out of Coventry is to live outside of it and just use it for the facilities, one of the benefits of all the roads is that it is easy to get into and out of. Best advertisement for commuting there is!

Had a couple of good curries there.

I tthink the advice re using and living outside is wise. My brother was at "the other place" and survived through living at somewhere between "Cov" and Leamington Spa.

It's a bit of a dump, the ring road is the weirdest thing I've ever seen.

it does have some top MMA and thai boxing clubs tho.

Ring road's dead easy - you've just got to keep your wits about you. Compared to Paris it's a doddle.

I'll go against the grain on this one.

I went to Coventry University and I had a great time. At the time the Uni was undergoing massive re-development and I understand that most of the town centre has done so since I left.

From an accomodation point of view, stay out of Foleshill.

Was this in the 1940's by any chance?

Hi Catherine,

When were you at Coventry University? I went there when it was Lanchester Polytechnic in 1984/6. The only real developement I have seen is the Pheonix complex and the new Transport Museum. The Museum is one of the best and is now free to enter.

Hi Bernie,

What course are you doing? The car design centre is the best in the country and one of the best in the world.
