Yes and no.

It can all get pretty silly, for example did you know that the original measurements for the divide between the two sides was based on the usual length of a mans arm plus sword?

No the other hand put 20 PH'ers in a room and ask them to debate whether or not Alfas should all be crushed on the basis that all they are is an engine, gearbox/transaxle, cheap plastic and rust and I’ll bet it would get childish very quickly!

Ah the fundamental problem with a confrontational democracy system. Children with toys and prams..... and you are absolutely right, they make life changing decisions for all of us, yet play one-up-manship with words.... and are paid well for it....

Great, dont you just love it...

I blame the church - if the original parliament hadn't been held in westminster chapel in the choir stalls then the two party system of government probably would never have evolvde as it has. (whether thats a good or bad thing I leave to you to ponder)...

The HOP didn't have a permanent meeting place before 1547, but from 1547 until 1834 (fire) the parliament met here. Hence all the stuff you hear about 2 sword lengths is daft - the building was a chapel - not designed for govt at all.

Sorry to be a spoil sport

Yep, you're two sword lengths from your opposition but only a daggers length from the guy sat behind you!
