Am I right in thinking that one doesn't need a passport to fly internally within the uk? Also, is a passport required to fly to france even though it's still within the EU?
Cheers.
IME the budget airlines will require your passport for internal flights as identification
and yes you will need your passport for foreign flight

Meant to be Photo ID for within the UK but I use easyJet loads and they take Forces ID, Passports and Driving Licences. First choice would be the Passport, even if its out of date.
As for France I always take the Passport, check the Airlines T's and C's

The law is a bit weird on this, the folks who are supposed to know are usually wrong. For example, only a Police Officer has the right to see your passport, not customs and not passport officials either. You do not need a passport to leave the country, and if you are a UK citizen, you do not need it to enter the UK either. Also if a customs official wants to search you, they have to wear white gloves. The Police dont have to wear white gloves though. If you pushed the white gloves or no showing of passport issues though, you would get held up for a few hours whilst they check it out and eventually come back with "Hey, you were right, I've been doing this job ten years and never knew you didnt have to show me your passport and that I had to wear white gloves to search you...how interesting...did you enjoy your day with us...missed your flight though?...shame"
