Help guys, I have a dilemma.

I have been offered a summer job working in telesales, it's on good money compared to my previous summer jobs and it easy to get to from home.

The downside is I will be cold calling innocent people to sell them double glazing!

Would you take the job and could you live with the consequences of doing this heathen job!?!?

You have to be hard skinned for this type of work.

If you can take abuse and just shrugg it off, no problem. If you are sensitive or likely to snap back at potential customers, forget it.

Its not an easy job but if the money is OK and you can handle the abuse, crack on!

You could change your name, move country and have surgery on your voice box....

Course the fact that we wouldn't speak to you on PH would probably hurt most.

Only kidding!

Why not go for it - it's only for a short term, it might be fun and you might learn something.

Depends on wether you have to follow any BS marketing script and be duplicitous. If you rang up and said "Hi, my name is Ben from ABC double glazing, would you like a quote?" you will get lots and lots of "No thanks" but probably wont p*** anyone off. Its a numbers game and eventually you will get someone who says "yes, as a matter of fact I would like a quote please". The problem is, folks who work in marketing dont buy this basic number crunch approach and want you to fanny about instead with a mealy mouthed fork tongued script, which does wind folks up some.

If they are basically decent and honest I would say go for it. If they are obsessed with charts and tables and BS speak, it could be not very enjoyable and doomed to failure with poor hit rates, which they then counter with more BS and it gets worse and worse. They always blame the staff too.

I sell double glazing, doors and conservatories (at the quality end) but I dont do any cold calling. Its the pits.

I managed something similar for 3 whole months

If you can turn up, do the 3 (or whatever) hours, and go home again and it doesnt bother you, go for it.

If you are easily wound up or give up easily, dont do it!

Cold calling is crap, been there done that myself. But, if the money is good and you have the right temperament (ie not taking a refusal personally) then why not?

I did a couple of months Door-to-Door selling (of some Central Heating gadget) many years ago, on the downside it was very disheartening & didn't earn a great deal - but on the upside I did manage a couple of 'Romantic Interludes'

Did this when I was a student. Was so bored that I fell asleep on the second night and the boss suggested I go home to rest and they would call me when they needed me back!!! They never did call.

If you think it will be rubbish see if there is any work on a building site or shopfitting. Best paid work I did at University and it was quite a good laugh.

No. Simple as.

Do you like being cold-called at stupid times to be sold some product you don't even want? No? Then there's your answer.

There are plenty of jobs out there that don't involve annoying people.

And before some call-centre monkey pipes up about it only being a job & there's no need to get arsey with them........... off......if I am interested in something I will actively seek it out for myself.

And breathe...........
