This morning I left for work as usual, except when I opened my gate I noticed my NSF headlight wasn't working. Leaving me with something of a choice.

Should I
a) Sod it, no one else bothers replacing bulbs
or b) do something about it.

Being the conscientious citizen I am I chose b) and went back inside got a replacement, came back out, fitted it and went on my merry way feeling all nice inside cos I had contributed to the well being of this fair nation of ours, despite ending up 15mins late for work...

...so why is it that every car I saw with a light out I had a near overwhelming desire to rip the drivers head off and shout random filthy obscenities at them. Is it too much to ask to take 15mins out from their oh so busy lifestyle to replace a bulb Instead Mr(s) Mark V. Escort travelling south on the A49, had noticed his field of vision was somewhat dimmer than usual as (s)he had no front lights working on their off side thought they would compensate by having their near side main beam on and their sole working fog light.

FFS, its not what you want at 730am on a damp twisty A-road, being blinded by an oncoming car to such an extent you cant see the road in front of you as they're passing or for the next five minutes because of the arc eye from their lights. But hey, that wouldn't contribute to an accident, so long as Mr(s) Escort wasn't speeding they're not a kiddy killer, right???

When are we going to get some equality with the law. In my book the escort was due 12 points. 3points for driving with a failed headlight bulb, 3 for driving with fog lights on with visibility greater than 100m, 3 for driving with one of said fog lights failed, and 3 for not driving with due care and attention for not dimming headlights to oncoming vehicles.

But hey what do I know, I just like to drive fast, where appropriate & safe etc so must be the spawn of Satan.

Blown lights are one of my top motoring hates, along with those cretins who think they can see sooooooooo much better/their car looks sooooooo much cooler with the front fogs on.

I'm sure in some cases it might have only just happened and they haven't had chance to notice it or they'll get a new bulb and replace it in the ligth, etc. Thing is most of them are either too stupid to look in the book to see how to replace the bulb/check that they are all working or are stupidly tight.

(Don't mention the rear fog-light 3 days after it was last a little bit misty buch - there is a special place in hell (if it exists) reserved for them.)

Whats with the latest craze - Front fogs and side lights only.

Seen everything from Chav cars to People carriers.

Bloody annoying!

Yes i agree (I knew mine had only just blown cos it was fine at midnight last night when i got home and opened my gate!!!) but in the particular case of the Escort...blown running light, dipped beam, main beam and fog all on the same side of the car, either its a massive electrics failure or laziness of the worst kind. Either way the car simple wasn't road worthy.

What about cars with no lights on at all...?

Leaving Bath last night, I followed a car for a few minutes, driving through the town with no lights on at all at 2am (almost pulled out in front of him due to the fact). I flashed him from behind a couple of times, but he didn't realise.

I overtook him when we got out onto the (unlit) dual carriagweay. but it was only about 10-15 seconds after that (he was driving in total darkness), that I saw his lights come on in the mirror...
