Anyone remember those coats?

They were stiff leather and sleaveless.
You used to be able to get them in places like army surplus stores.
I think they were used by people that delivered coal or woodsmen etc.
Not donkey jackets though as they were tanned leather.
Anyone know what they are called or where you can buy them? Also what do you call someone that delivers coal?

Don't know why but i thought the coal man would be called something els. Wasn't the rag and bone man called a tosser?. Not being rude there btw, think i'll get me coat.

Right, I must ask the question we're all itching to know...why do you want to look like a coalman?
I must admit I own a leather sleeveless jacket, which I wore once and was ridiculed before I even left the house. I've only worn it under another jacket since and must warn you the terms 'rent boy' 'Freddie Mercury' and 'gaylord' seem to be associated with such a garment

They're called "gillets" pronounced gill-ey and originally worn by scottish gamekeepers or "gillet man" the term however has been hijacked and ponceyfied by the trendy fashion for chicks to wear leather and fur body warmers which for some reason they want to call "jillette" with some sort of poncey french undertone.

I beleive the POliceman from the Village people has such a garment
