Ludicrous Fashions in Clothes

In the supermarket yesterday I saw this young guy pushing a trolley (carte) wearing trousers belted around his knees exposing a pair of embroidered boxer shorts. At first I thought he had not realised they were slipping off his butt when I saw that the trousers legs reached only to his calfs. In other words, he appeared to be wearing a pair of trousers fit only for a child, and ones totally constricting his leg movements.
Had you engaged this young man in conversation, I have no doubt that he would have proudly told you, in a strong Welsh accent, that he was the only gay in his village.

Don't really care for fashion TBH. 'Style' is something that you look good in that others will appreciate. 'Fashion' is something that looks good on other people for about 5 minutes for a one-off magazine photoshoot that people laugh at in old photos.
The fashion I find most stupid at the moment is the one that seems to follow along the lines of:
Brightly coloured '70s-style trainers, pre-stained jeans with a studded belt Rob Halford would turn his nose up at, riding half way down the arse with the boxers showing, a pastel-coloured T-shirt with a faded logo saying '84 AllSTARS' or 'SHAG ME I'M PRETENDING TO BE GAY' on it, topped off with a cardigan, a few notches shaved in the eyebrow, obligatory Craig David beard and earring, and a truly stupid hairstyle that looks like their hair had a bit of gel and blonde dye thrown at it, half of it shaved, then stuffed into a wind tunnel sideways.
They look like tw@s and in photos of themselves in 20 years time they'll look like right pillocks.

The thing that gets me about fashion is that it changes too quickly and that you have to go out and buy new clothes to stay fashionable, which to my mind is pointless. The other problem of course is that when something becomes fashionable and the majority are wearing it, "normal" clothes go out of the window.
Take for instance the current fad of wearing skin-tight tops and jeans with stains which look like you've messed yourself and the dribbles have run down your legs. Now I don't like those jeans so won't wear them, but you try and get a decent pair of ordinary jeans in the "popular" shops - you are offered one cut only. Same with tops. I've got very wide shoulders and am of a slightly larger nature so those tops look absolutely terrible on me with my shoulders pulled to my ears, try finding some normal tops which aren't designed for skinny blokes!
I hate it, I hate buying clothes so much I rarely actually change my wardrobe/buy new clothes, indeed I can't actually go into a clothes shop without wondering "is this a mans shop", "can I shop here", "why are they looking at me funny", "jesus christ, lets get out of here".

I tend to go with darker colours when I do buy clothes, grays, blacks and blues usually.
Then again, I'm rarely seen outside of jeans, t-shirt/jumper and a fleece. Although in my defence the fleece is needed for warmth since I drive a car with either no roof, or no heater and a leaking roof.
I think I need to get some new clothes again

Thankfully I seem to be able to pull off most of the styles I like. I usually go for smart-casual shirts and trousers with a nice belt for the usual evening out (though I sometimes do suit jacket, T-shirt & jeans as well), and smarten up my hair. I'll jump at any chance to wear a nice suit, but its got to be the right occasion (BTaP?). However, at a gig or a rock night, it's all change - more often than not my hair's over my eyes, black 'band name/daft comment' T-shirt, old tatty jeans, big boots (not the goth kind, just big-ish black boots), black wristband, attitude problem and stubble. Dunno why, just feels right.
One thing I wear quite a bit that I get a lot of negative comments about is a very '80s big black leather jacket. Truth is, it's very comfy and I think it looks OK with most things, but most people find it imposing and intimidating (I've got quite broad shoulders and I suppose in the dark it looks a bit vampiric), and on occasion when I've worn predominantly black and turned up early to a club or bar and waited outside, people have stopped to show me ID

I tend to wear black to avoid the pain of matching fashion. Not very adventurous, I guess. It's my daughters that direct me to what's new and colorful. Anyone else veer to black?
I used to veer to black quite frequently, and still do sometimes if I'm in a 'refined mystique' mood, when it's black silk shirt tucked into black trousers, tasteful aluminium belt buckle, everything else black.
I've discovered other colour combinations that look quite good on me though. I gravitate towards white, especially in the summer, and a combination of tan and navy blue looks good too (got a tan-coloured Italian suit I like to wear with a navy blue cotton shirt and a white silk tie - on hold till the Graduation Ball!).
