Been around for a while now. Originally brought out by Nike and Lance Armstrong to raise money for cancer reseacrh and treatment. Became very popular due to celebrity endorsement to the point where Nike could not supply enough of them. Now being counterfeited widely and offered on ebay by numerous scammers.

....and now there are a plethora of different ones. My 16 YO son has two intertwined black and white anti-racism ones and my daughter, 14, for some reason has a 'give to live', blood donation one.....

My flatmate has an Oxfam "lets make poverty history" one. I don't know whether it's a good idea because it's making chairty cool, or rather sad to see loads of people supporting things they otherwise wouldn't just because they get to wear a band which gives them street-cred...

Oooh, I have loads of them! I think they're for a good cause, if you buy them from the correct place. It's good that fashion is becoming to help others, although I does concern me that the money doesn't always go where it should.

I Have;

Yellow - Livestrong
Red - AIDS from South Africa
Blue x 2 - Bullying and Tsunami
Pink - Breast Cancer
White x3 - Christian Aid & Make Poverty History & Livestrong
Green - Macmillan
Black and White Racism one, they're hard to get hold of though!

I collect them. Don't WEAR all of them!

Yea, its annoying when people use them as a fashion statement instead of knowing the real charity reasons for it.
Those that buy them off ebay or wherever knowing full well none of the money goes to the original cause bugs me, those that sell them even more so.

Yet I do wear one of these www.pnefc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/LoudDetail/0,,10362~621846,00.html , it helps my club out and money goes to tsunami victims.

Why, if it's how you choose to support your chosen charity.

True, but the 'Bullying' band and the 'Racism' band aren't about charity.

They, surely, are about pointing out (without having to preach) that you think both things stink and if kids are at school, wherever, they can speak about the issues knowing they are with likeminded people without feeling like they might get shouted down by bullies or...er...racist bullies.

I wear a LiveSTRONG band, but not as a fashion statement, or to look cool.

I am truly inspired by Lance Armstrong, not simply because he has won the Tour de France for the last 6 years, but because of his amazing approach to the illness he has conquered.

For those that don't know, he had testicular cancer, that spread to his lungs, brain, and other parts of his body... yet he has still come back and totally dominated one of the most physically and mentally gruelling sporting events in the world...

When I'm having a crappy day and get in a bad mood, I just look under my sleeve and have a think - It kinda puts whatever was bugging me into perspective ...

Cancer has also taken 2 close family members, so I'm also very happy to donate money to his foundation.

Andy.

I don't give money to charity in order to be able to "show off" the fact by wearing a bracelet to show what a fantastically caring person i am. I do it because they are in need of the money more than i am.

It'd help if the official site didn't sell them in a minimum batch size of 10...
