Who can't switch off a crap film?

It's now nearly two in the morning. All because I can't switch off a crap film.
Leaving Las Vegas. Utter crap, yet I watched it all the way through.
Nearly got suckered into 1984 aswell, but made a break for the pc instead and left the video running.
Exactly the same as me
Can't imagine how Leaving Las vegas got an Oscar though (what did it get it for?) - totally unrealistic story-line...and Ben made a very unlikely alchy.
I did some channel hopping when it ended..somehow found 1984 and very nearly started to watch it...when I said NO !! so I logged on instead
Now I think it's time for bed

Totally the opposite, even if I've rented it.
One day i'll pluck up the courage to take one back and demand my money back (I always threaten to whenever it happens).
Recent-ish reject was "The Hunted" with Tommy Lee Jones and Benicio Del Toro (who I quite like to watch). Got to the part where he healed the wolf's paw with some chewed up plant and spit, my hand was twitching over the Eject button.
Then came the inital face-off between the two leads and the camera span around them both, Matrix style.
EJECT!
I think it was only 10 minutes in.

Life is too short to lose two good hours before a crap movie, or television programme, for that matter. I'd rather go down to the pub and do some listening to three-dimesional folk who can teach me something, entertain or sympathise.
Wise words LA.
I have a very low tolerance for bad films. My count to date for walking out of the cinema however is only 2 - Thin Red Line and more recently Matrix 3. I came really close with Star Wars Ep 2 (but I had my son with me and he was entertained so I had to grit my teeth) and also the last installation of Austin Powers.
1984 is bloody good IMO!
You have to have read the book though, or the film makes bugger all sense!
As for Leaving Las Vegas, is that the one with Nicholas Cags eand that rather tasty whatever her name is? I agree - That is a bit lame.
SWAT is a pretty poor film too, if you're interested!

I refuse to walk out of any film I pay to go see at the cinema. I don’t think you have the right to say it’s a bad film if you haven’t seen it all, witnessed the entire story and character arc, etc etc…
An example recently was Alexander which I totally despised, I hated it from about 15 minutes in but had to keep watching it just to see if it ever redeemed itself from the enormous crap filled chasm it was digging… Needless to say it didn’t, but at least I’ve seen it and am qualified to comment on it being the most diabolical film I’ve ever seen (and I mean that!!)
I hated both the matrix sequels too, and even more recently Ocean’s Twelve. How could they ruin such perfect formulas?

I did that once - video store guy was very understanding and let me swap it for another one. Probably helped that we'd picked up the tape, gone straight home to watch it, given up after 10 min and headed straight back to the store (arrived maybe 30min after renting it).
Back to the original question, though - I can usually manage to bin a cr4p film 1/2 way through, but have much more trouble giving up on a cr4p book. Figure that one out!

I can suspend disbelief with the best of them, and I've never walked out of a movie, or fallen asleep in a cinema for that matter. Finding out the ending, meaning or explanation in a film gets me hooked every time. Though the Matrix lost it's plot, I was happy to watch it through to the end to try to understand the author's vision - at least they had something in mind when they wrote it.
The two big exceptions are films that have no point and just meander along (Legends of the Fall is a good example) or films where the script writer just gave up on any sort of coherent thought (Leonard Part 6). Being 'wacky' is no excuse for random stuff just happening. Yet I'm happy to watch 'wacky' films if the universe they inhabit has some sort of internal logic, so I was happy to sit through Toys for instance.
When the film ends and the real world floods back in, I will acknowledge that a rubbish film was rubbish though.

Depends where I am. If I'm lying in bed and I can't get to sleep and there's a late-night film on, I'll probably watch it even if it's crap. Point is, even the lamest of storylines hooks you in some way so you do have a sort-of obligation to watch to the end.
Of course by that time, I'm really tired and I go to sleep - job done!

Most recently rented out 8 Mile and thought it an utter pile of garbage, kept watching thinking something will happen & it will pick up, but no so ended up watching all of it and thinking what a waste of my time.
Monsters Ball another film watched hoping something will happen, apart from Hally Berry getting her kit of and a couple of deaths could have switched off anytime but had to see the end just in case

It got Nicolas Cage Best Actor, though I thought he'd get Best Startled Sheep (Oops!)
He didn't play a very convincing alchy...nor a realistic death scene. I can only presume the other nominees were even worse.
