Right that's it.

I remember being made so damn angry by the mummy and little boy with piggy bank attitude of Bank the whole "In your first year, your overdraft limit is £1100 and the current accounts of all types have a £100 buffer zone" So I thought "I need a tenner and I have £9.97, I can use some of my £1100 overdraft or at least my buffer zone". I think I was charged £75 in total as I had to go in and have them agree to my allready agreed overdraft limit. OTHERWISE WHY ING WELL ADVERTISE AS BEING A FACILITY WHEN YOU HAVE TO ING WELL GROVEL FOR IT LIKE THE PEOPLE WITHOUT.

I remember thinking "When I quit uni, I will pay my overdraft off and tell them to off" I sorted the OD but didn't tell them to foxtrot oscar.

So, at the moment I am a allowance free Jobseeker and absolutely broke! I have got an interview and realised my suit trousers were for my pre-late 20's spread me. Cue "Will need some of that £100" overdraft buffer I read on my account spec the other day". THE ING ER PIECES HAVE CHARGED ME A FORTUNE OF THEIR USUAL STANDARD. I AM ABSOLUTELY SPITTING.

I am going to shuffle my 3 accounts, get 'em all to £0.00 and tell them to foxtrot oscar.

I may be stupid about realising that "Pre-agreed overdrafts" and "Buffers" are not as they seem on the glossy leaflets, but I am walking. I would rather crawl on broken glass to Scotland to get a decent service.

I am hopping. Jeez, I am always in credit and use my account loads. I expect more.

Somebody recommend me a decent service provider please.

It's just a shame that the till dolly was so nice, I really wanted to shout at someone.

I've been with Lloyds for years and they have always been great...

6 years ago I defected to Lloyds, as NaffWest treated me like crap as soon as I stopped being a student.

I have an overdraft facility with Lloyds. If I need to pay for a few more laps than my overdraft can cope with, I just give 'em a call and they say "No problem, Sir, are you sure you only want an extra £500?"

The thing is, they make more money from interest, so as long as I have a good history of paying it back, they fall over themselves to increase my borrowing.

In fact, I was (unknowingly) paid late in January and my mortgage payment should have bounced. The first I knew of it was I got a letter frmo Lloyds to the effect of "You were about to go beyond your limit, and we would have charged you £30, but instead we've given you a larger overdraft until your account is back to normal."

Top guys!

I've been with Barclays, HSBC, First Direct, LloydsTSB and Natwest.

HSBC and FD are by far the best.

All banks have good and bad points, and good and bad staff (sometimes its the muppet in the India call centre who's to blame).

I use Lloyds TSB, they've mucked me around, pssed me off but I can't be bothered to change because I had the same amount of grief with Barclays, HSBC, NatWest etc.

Funny you should say that.

LTSB implemented an IVR that spoke with a different voice depending on the class of customer.

The Platinum and Personal Banking customers got a properly spoken voice. LTSB then got loads of complaints from builders and the like who were of the correct customer class who didnt like the 'posh computer bird' on the IVR...

My bank should love me. I have a huge overdraft, and a smallish credit card bill that I frequently forgot to pay, but then pay plus the 'you didnt pay' charges. They make loads of money from me

But instead they are mean to me

i think all banks are much of a likeness to be honest.

i was with abbey and had "problems". i was then with barclays who were actually very good but kept confusing my money with my ltd company's money. the bsoc that sounds like a london river crossing didn't want to give me a cheque guarantee card despite a huge amount on deposit.

i ended up with citibank international who have been excellent over the last couple of years. even the indian call centre is very good. cant complain.

I'd recommend Barclays myself.

Never had a moments trouble with them and they have always been top class IMO.

When I was a student I would occassionally go over my £600.00 O/D but when this happened I never once got charged as it was usually a few days to a week before the usual mothly payments in.

When I stopped being a student I paid off the O/D the day before I was due to start paying interest on it and they confirmed that I would still have the facility for up to £600 should I ever need it.

Twice I have I have had suffered from Connect Card fraud - once by some doggy co, another caused by a dim checkout girl who didn't know what she was doing with the new chip and pin. Both times my account was re-credited within 24 hours and the problem investigated and dealt with straight away.

Royal Bank of Scotland.

Swapped to them a few years back after horrendous problems with the Halifax (was with the Leeds before and had no problems).

RBS - great online banking, phones are answered generally within a minute, polite and always willing to help.

Highly recommended.

Just had an appointment with the chief and she "licked my balls" enough. Which covered a bit of ground, got my fine reduced to £25 which was better than £75 and had her PR sorted. I suppose the bottom line is to read the small print very carefully.

It is rather geek to go through all the terms and conditions, but it makes sense. It just isn't cricket fining your customers hugely. Perhaps have a hierachial tree of sanctions. 3 strikes and then we'll have your kidneys type approach.

I've got a long fuse but they really lit the wrong end of it today.

I'll still test the water. HSBC are meant to be very good.

Firstdirect is a part of HSBC. They are very good and every FD customer recommends them on average about twice a month. They have only tried to charge me twice in the past 8 years, both times for exceeeding my OD limit, both times they gave me the charges back when I asked nicely.

I am in that situation myself at the moment due to (hopefully) temporary financial meltdown after buying a house...

It really annoys me that i am getting loads of shitty letters from my creditors informing of how much more money they are charging me because i am broke!

I am getting charged over a hundred a month in extra charges just from my bank and they are having a go at me! Just send me a little thank you note and some choccies please, no more nasty letters
