As to why he's doing what he's doing, to many people of a certain age he epitomises all that is right and decent in getting to the truth. And getting ed over by the state for doing it.

Was Assistant Chief Constable or Deputy Chief Constable of Greater Manchester Police round about 10 to 15 years ago?
