Kurt sports the same facial bouffancy that electrified punters in the following year's masterpiece, John Carpenter's sublime, groundbreaking reinterpretation of 'The Thing.'

There, his beard was perfectly acceptable, mainly due to the Arctic temperatures but also on a traditional, theatrical level.

In this, however, it is was a purely ceremonial affectation with little or no justification.

The film does feature the late, great E.Borgnine, for which Academy illumination was disgracefully witheld but as Don suggests, the film is actually too abysmally superb to watch.

The mere fact of it being on another channel whilst I digested a news bulletin, nonetheless, imbued me with a sense of fulfillment and well being.
