hi guys,

I once saw advertised a type of log cabin, it was ready built and like a giant cube whereby two of the walls were glass, I cant seem to find out what it is called, any help gratefully recieved.

I believe Philippe Starck designed it as a sort of flatpack - google around and you should find it. It's a very stylish building for not a lot of money.

Failing that, I heard that IKEA has brought one out.

I think they're great, 37k too, although I suppose it's just a glorified static caravan without wheels...

Still damn cool!

I think Diarmuid Gavin designed one for Homefront if that's any help, maybe the BBC website will have a link.

looks pretty cool IMO, why the interest anyway Craig?

You thinking of getting one? or just one of those things that sprung to mind and was grating because you couldn't remember what it was?

they look smart but is it a designer house or the start of trailer park trash for the twenty-first century?

Could be looked at either way I suppose, in the right setting it could look like a very cool (but small) contemporary home.

However there's the danger that a few pikeys could easily snap them up at 40k and they could be the next big thing frequenting your local playing field!!

Nice Mas by the way craig!

If you follow it up and download the brochure (from www.retreathomes.co.uk) you'll see that it's not designed for residential use....

.....which is a shame as I think it looks pretty cool - cheap alternative to a 1 bedroom maisonette.

A freind of a freind has done a very similar thing.

They have a very plush log cabin (comes under the same regs as static caravans IIRC) 2 bedroom thing with a big living room and all the mod cons (incl Plasma screen ) which they live in for 11 months a year, for the other month they go skiing. Seems a great idea to me, set them back around 60K IIRC incl the land.
