Italy – Sweden TV ad spat

The Italian government complains to the Swedish government over a TV advert satirising Italian government interference in TV stations (via Berlusconi’s dominance).

Obviously the Italian government doesn’t realise that the very act of complaining to the Swedish government instead of the TV station itself is simply confirms its belief that it’s OK for governments to interfere with TV stations.

Swedish ambassador to Italy said:

He could only say that the media in Sweden are independent and free. It is nothing to do with the government. If they want to complain, they will have to do so to the station.
