Phew - anybody else watching this?

Charlie Boorman and Ewan MacGregor (and Claudio the cameraman and, separately, teh supprot team) all getting disheartened by the tough bits in Mongolia.

God! Those are beautiful landscapes, and my heart really goes out to them as the going gets so tough. Can feel every "off"!!!

True they've got a bit self-centred, an' all. But then you would do.

Compulsive viewing!

I've been reading the diary of a guy called Alistair Humphreys here who's riding round the world on a bike... a pedal bike

He left 3 1/2 years ago, and has about a year to go...

The book was one of the best that I have ever read. It was truly inspirational. I was sorely tempted to take up motorbike lessons after reading it (not really possible at the moment). It really made me lonesome for my biking days I haven't seen the television series. I will have to catch it next week.

Been watching the DVD as I missed it on TV the last time.
Fantastic viewing, the bit in Ukraine was great and I enjoyed the Khazakstan trip. Looks like an amazing place.
Episode 7 to go, interested to see a bit of Alaska as a lad from work lives there and he loves it.

I've done bit of sailing in baltic. Nice loads of jelly fish everywhere and we had a lot of fog. Should read To the Baltic with Bob: An Epic Misadventure by Griff Rhys Jones. Its a not bad book and some bits just had me wetting myself partly becasue it reminds me of the good old times.

Is it worth getting the DVD or should I get the book?

I watched the whole series on dvd last weekend.
It was fantastic viewing and very inspiring.

All those amassing landscapes, and interesting events along the way, makes my life look a bit boring.

Makes me feel like chucking in the job and pi**ing off to somewhere nice on a bike.

I'm tempted to swap my sports bike for a big trialie, possibly the BMW 1150GS ?

Any one want a Triumph Daytona 955 (at a good price) ?

Read the book and then immediately bought the DVD, brilliant stuff, pi55ed myself laughing when they went to Ivan's house (was he really Mafia?) only slight niggle was that they should have edited out the W@nker episode from Charley as I would really like my ten yr old daughter to watch the entire series as it gives a great insight into the countries they passed thru.

Enjoyed watching it on TV and got the DVD for Christmas.

It's all pretty inspiring stuff and thought the two of them came across as pretty normal and unspoilt.

Bet KTM are kicking themselves now too!

So inspired, I bought the bike

-well the R1200GS anyway

I thought MacGregor and Boorman were a pair of overrated, spoilt, papmered idiots.

I do accept that they've been lucky to be a ble to do such a trip, and selling it to the various media probably made it possible for them. Plus they have to earn a living from book/DVD royalties etc.

But some of the scenery was awesome.

I thought that initially, especially when KTM refused them bikes and they had a massive toys out the pram spoilt brat moment.

But on the whole I thought they came across pretty well. There was certainly no doubt they were on their own in Kazakstan (IIRC) when they were repeatedly dropping their bikes or getting stuck.

They did come across that way initially - I think Boorman was a worse culprit than Macgregor with his tiff over the KTMs. EG seems quite grounded.

I think THEY accepted they were lucky to be able to do the trip.
