Hope someone out there can help out here. I need three volunteers to send a text message for me to Brazil. I have an Orange phone and am receiving texts from Mrs Ribol who is currently in Rio on a Brazilian mobile. She can text me fine but I cannot reply, have told Orange but they don’t know why bla bla bla.
Have tried on a Vodaphone, same thing, also “failed”. The problem may be in Brazil but I need to find out. So, what I need is three kind people to send a message from a UK based O2, T-mobile and 3G mobile to her to see if they get through or not.
If there are any takers:
Message is:

3G works text Ivan.
O2 works text Ivan.
T-mobile works text Ivan.

If anyone is kind enough to do it, it will be greatly appreciated. Please post on here if you have done it as I don’t want to bother more people than necessary. Once I know which one works (if any) I can go out and buy a phone. Oh yes, number – 0055 47 99530754.

Thanks

Do you want someone with an Orange number (other than yours) to give it a try for you, or have you done that?

Firstly many thanks to all the above for your efforts

Getting back to the serious issue of my being able to contact Mrs Ribol

None of Orange, O2, Voda or T-mobile have got there she assures me whilst sitting on the beach trying not to get too hot.

Last try, anyone on 3G willing to waste a text message in the interest of phone science?

Not sure why you want to try using a 3G phone as text message uses the same 2G SMS servers and machines. Unless you want to try and send a video message via the 3G service which will only work to another 3G phone. Is Brazil 3G'd yet ?

(I work for VooDoofone so am willing to try if you want ?)

Just tried and seems to have worked ok from my own personal Voodoofone 3G mobile on standard 2G text. Try +55 rather than 00................Apart from that, can't see a problem !

Done the +55 thing apparently according to Orange it should make no difference.
Sorry to be a mobile thicko but I thought 3G was another provider, like Orange, Voda etc, is that wrong then? What is 2G?

Will wait to see if Mrs Ribol got it, so far no response - thanks for trying it anyway.

Ahh ! You mean just "3", Hutchison telecom.............

2G is standard GSM. 3G is the collective name for the new 3rd generation mobile service including video calls and super quick downloads etc, etc (not going into it).

Ok, just spoke to the Carphone Warehouse and according to them there is more chance of the government removing speed cameras than a "3" mobile working in Brazil
Thanks for the 2G v 3G info, I get the picture

Mrs Ribol is now setting off to find a contract mobile to try, she has PAYG at present.
The good news is it is far too hot to stay on the beach too long

Thanks for your help.

So is that a UK 3 mobile number ? Surely it should start 07, the number you quote starts 047.

If this is a 3 mobile being used abroad, why are you dialling the country code for Brazil ? You should just dial the mobile number and let the network provider decide where it is.

If I've missed the point somewhere, I appologise, but I am finishing now for the weekend so in switchoff mode.
