I'd agree in principle, but I remember being taken to pubs (not in the evening, mind) as a kid and actually appreciating the adult company (but not the smoking).
I think pubs that don't do food should operate an 18+ only rule, certainly, and ones that do should have a rule that the kids have to leave when they stop serving food (usually 8 or 9-ish).

Following on from a comment on another thread, should kids be allowed in pubs at all? I think Kids should be banned from pubs totally apart from Sat and Sun lunch..
Cos they Ps the F
k out of me!
No - I've got four kids and I reckon pubs should be family places. However, smoking should be banned in pubs.
I wouldnt take my daughter to a pub in the evening primarily because shes generally asleep.
Pubs though are generally either family friendly or not, perhaps if you dont like the family friendliness of your chosen pub you should simply find somewhere else to drink thats not as family friendly?
Its like the smoking argument. The market will decide, if you let it...

Why, do they make fun of your strange purple eating implements and your unusual crystal tableware ?

go to my local quite often and know the staff there and kids just run around standing on tables etc..
when the staff have a word with the parents about the kids they think the staff are out of order!!!
unbelievable!
i don't go till around 9pm now just so the kids have buggered off by then.

Agree totally. It seems like everywhere is turning into a creche nowadays. I don't mind kids being somewhere as long as they are well behaved but when they are screaming and running round your ankles the landlord should tell the parents to eff off.
A kid was charging round the pub a couple of weeks ago, crashed into me and spilt my pint
Did he offer to buy me a new one, no. That's just bloody rudeness in my opinion. Mind you, he did then have beer in his hair
There is a couple in my local who always brought their baby in with them, they used to sit at the bar as normal, not even in the no-smoking area

Sunday for example we went to visit friends.
Whilst the roast was in the oven we were at a loose end so went to the local and very nice it was too.
Its a gastro pub so lots of people eating many of which had kids.
My daughter, well behaved and stayed close to us at all times. No problem for us and no problem for anyone else in there.
The real issue comes with people who cant/dont know how to discipline their children. Its not the childrens fault...

I spent 7 years in the pub trade, and mainly food houses, and yes they should be family places and many kids are fine and polite and keep out the way, however biggest problem is the parents not giving a toss what their child is upto, that is when accidents happen and quite serious ones, when this happens I can tell you parent blames the pub.
I have thrown out entire families because they will not control their children.
Cheers
Guy.

I don't have a problem with kids in pubs at lunchtimes as long as they're well behaved and not allowed to run riot or scream the place down.
I don't agree with kids in pubs in the evenings. And I don't believe that smoking should be banned in all pubs either.
There's way too much of the "think of the children" attitude in this country. I'm sorry, but there are times and places and some just aren't suitable.

I think theres room for both types of pub, the problems only arise when the clientel cross over
Case in point..
2 of my local pubs....
1 has the 2 meals for a fiver sign on the roof, slide in the front garden, ball pit, the works....
1 has a sign writen in Biro (with spelling mistakes) saying Sunday Afternoon is Men only, doors shut at 2.45, strippers come on at 3pm
I know which one I'll be drinking in
