I want to go to Dubai for 9 days or so the second week of April.

Anyone got any tips of where to get a good deal, Expedia seems to be the best at about £550 each for 2 people. (Heathrow to Dubai)

Anyone been and can suggest what to do there?

Cheers

Hatta Fort - they used to do a deal where you could go for dinner on thursday and get free accommodation. Go, even if the offer is not available. Hire a proper 4WD and you can drive to Hatta Pools - gravel track so you don't need to be an expert and you can have a good laugh at people trying to get there in front wheel drive japanese saloons.

As a tourist, you'll probably want to go to the bar a the top of the Burj - 20 quid to get in but you get it back against drinks (2 G & Ts or 3 cans of boddies!).

The souks are worth a visit, down by Dubai Creek. Best place for sunset is the Boardwalk at the yacht club. The seafood restaurant at the jmeirah Beach Hotel is nice, too - on an island, it has a bar on the roof and a great restaurant if you like seafood.

There are some good deals available after March the Jumeirah Beach is sufferin a little with the new sister hotel next door so some good deals appearing there.
Be careful of some of the other hotels further up the beach. There is construction on a scale thats hard to believe happening around the marina and I would avoid the Royal meridien, Hilton, Sheraton and even the Ritz Carlton unless they guarantee a sea front room.
All the above are doing deal though so may think it's worth it, they are all still very good hotels especially the Ritz and Meridien. Meridien Mina Seyahi is ok as is Royal Mirage which is my favourite Dubai hotel.
Try and fly direct it is a total pain in the arse doing the qatar or Al italia stopover routes, good deals there as well, BA had Dubai in their recent sale and Emirates are doing some cheaper fares though it is hard to find them.
Eeating out, the new hot place is the Madinat hotel area next to the Burj and JBH, there are over 30 reataurants bars and clubs all gathered around a series of canals and a recreated souk area for shopping. Great place to stay as well, part of the www.jumeirahinternational.com group of hotels. Even if staying elsewhere the beach bistro at Royal mirage is fantastic as is the JBH seafood already mentioned.
Coming from UK prices here are cheap for most goods since we are pegged to the worthless dollar.
If you want to get out go to the east coast, much prettier with some great diving or snorkelling. See it soon they have just agreed another 14 hotels on this coast which will effectively destroy the characture of the area, shame really but thats progress i guess.
Musandan is totally stunning, this is the area of Oman isolated to the north of UAE, take a dive trip or even hire a dhow to sail from Khorfakan on the east coast, fantastic. Some pics of the East coast.
