Just to settle an argument I hold the view that middle age does not start till you are 50 and old age when you are 80.

It starts when you buy a cardigan and zip up slippers.

Well, if life begins at 40 and ends at 100 then I guess middle age is 70.

However, I have met some people in their 20s who are "old" thinks it's much more a state of mind than a number.

I had a mate who referred to herself as a teenage forty year old. Meaning she was old beyond her years. And she was.

When my 7 year old was about 5 I asked her that very same question. She looked at and said "middle-age, is that between being young and being old?" "Yes", I said. She then paused and said "about 20 I think".

Well, I used to say 40 - but I now say 50. Read into that what you will.

Hmm, 45 - 50 ish I'd guess.

Don't give a sh1t myself, I'm 28 and Mrs is knocking 40. My brother and sister are 12 and 10 years older than I and I (usually)act about 10 years older than I am. And some used to say I looked it, the cheeky young scamps (no I've had a hard life!)

as said before you are as young/old as you feel.

I would go along with that.

Young: 0-30
middle age 30-60
positively antique: 60+

Middle age begins at now+5 where now is a moving point.

i.e. you never get there. Other people do.

It is much more a state of mind. You can see middle aged twenty-somethings, and extremely childish 50-somethings. That's where I aim to be, followed by getting old disgracefully.

Maybe I should move to Holmfirth, and buy some old bathtubs

In my opinion it's not the years that count! Middle age begins when you start having sprogs because they fundamentally change the way you live your life (unless you were a boring git before having them of course!).

No one can tell me when I was middle aged until such time as I die. As I will be 50 on Thursday, I am a firm believer that 50 is the new 30 and I aint done my first half yet!!

The worrying question is not when middle-age starts, it's when middle-age ends.
