The price of having clean clothes!

My washing machine has packed in, and i can't afford to have it looked at /replaced at the moment so after many years of doing laundry at home i just went and found a launderette.
I haven't used one of these places for atleast ten years but I think it cost about £1.20 to use the washer and 20p for the dryer the last time i used a launderette.
It just me cost almost £10 to do one load of laundry (£5.50) and then dry it (£3.60) That doesn't include paying over the odds for their washing powder as I took my own.
By my calculations the prices must have gone up by 50% every year for a decade to get to where they are now.
The funny thing there is an attendant in there who will take care of your laundry and fold it for....£1 per load! I think that is exceptional value for money..maybe when i get my machine fixed I will pay her a quid to come and do my laundry

That's over the odds mate, i pay £1.60 for the washing machine and 20p per 6 minutes in the tumble dryer. Admittidly a big wash will take 2 washers/2 dryers though. Even the nice, private one in town is only £1.70 for a wash and 20p per 5 mins in the dryer.

Maybe it is a supply and demand thing, there are only a couple of launderettes in my area, i had to go about 3 miles to find one, next time i will take my stuff down to London and see if it's any better.

From when I left home 7 years ago to today I have only ever ironed a shirt 3 times. M&S Non-Iron shirts and a succession of sensibly chosen g/fs.
Also had a mate when I lived in Worcester who was one of those wierd girls that actually enjoyed ironing and would pop over from time to time to chat and do my ironing.

Seems to be the season for washing machines dieing. Ours went out with a bang and whiff electrical smoke last Friday night. Ordered a new one online from Comet on Saturday morning - delivered 8am Monday morning! Well impressed! But that's £350 we could have spent on something more interesting

Then my mum took a different job which is much better and less stressful for her but which earns less and she is short on money.
She now charges me £1 each, same service but the difference is that I can drop them into my mum's house any time day or night.
