Old dining table...

Ok, we have a Dining room table that is basically too big. It was ok for our old house but the new house just doesn’t accept furniture of this size.

Now we could just stick the table and chairs in the free adds for a couple of hundred quid but I think it might be worth something. It was sold to us as an Edwardian walnut table and we were charged a reasonable amount (guessing about £700 for table and chairs – it was a few years ago), it is quiet big (6’ x 3.5’) very heavy and very solid, however we have since found out the seller in question has actually sold us some stuff that is not what it seems (Mrs gopher likes old furniture – I don’t really bother).

The thing which sets this apart is that we have found ourselves with a couple of antique dealers in the house (at different times) and both have asked if we would be willing to sell. We said no, because at the time we did not want to, and the conversation ended, but now I’m interested.

Are there any knowledgeable PH’ers out there that could at least gives us an idea of what it is (in terms of age and wood – using Photo’s) and if it’s worth getting a professional valuation?

If you send pics to me, I will give you an idea. Otherwise, local auction houses do free valuations. Just tell them you are thinking of selling and they will pop round, have a cup of tea and give you a figure they think they could sell it for.
