To be honest I applaud your unwavering stance on the smoking debate, although I whole heartedly disagree with 99% of what you have to say, and do find the odd comment you make offensive.
Having said that you have been on the wrong end of a few comments which I think push the boundaries of acceptability.
In this instance I felt that your introduction of the fact that the lady in question was/is obviously a smoker was utterly unnecessary, your irony going well above my head.
I have learnt, from experience, that unless something is crystal clear in it's meaning to all but the lamest brained individuals, similes and or silence are/is the answer. I don’t get it right all the time though!

Wow. Fame at last. My own thread.
I am here because I love cars and always have done. My mother says that when she was pregnant with me she really loved the smell of cars and beer, so she reckons my priorities were set before I was born.
This Pie and Piston thing is great because it gives people a place to have a good old debate without too much of the rancour you sometimes get elsewhere. I know that the points I make are taken on board by people just as I take on board other people's points. My views on many topics have been shaped by what I read here.
Like everyone else there are some subjects that I have a bee in my bonnet about: people poisoning the air I breathe, the inhumanity of hunting and the evil of socialism for instance. There are also some subjects I know quite a lot about because I have been through a lot of phases and have travelled very extensively (over 50 countries in one year, for instance). One phase was Malt Whisky when I read all the books, visited very many distilleries and built up a substantial collection of malts. One of my current phases is diving, especially with sharks, so I have dived with over 20 different varieties IIRC.
When I get stuck into threads on these subjects I try and contribute, to add value. If people disagree that is not a problem, I am not here to be popular. When people just insult me I am not bothered because I think it reflects badly on them and most people here can see that.
So, yes, unrepentant it is. I am not going to change my ways.

Interesting that you consider socialism to be a great evil when you celebrated the banning of hunting as a victory of the proles versus the toffs. I think you'd make a very good socialist with attitudes like that bruciebabe.

Actually this is one particular area where I have something to say - why do we all keep trying to pigeon-hole people with particular political persuasion?
If anything, we should all see that the current make-up of our political parties in the UK is a case of middle, middle and middle rather than right, centre or left..... Rather than ideologies and principles we see them fighting over specific issues (immigration and the NHS being two).
So please stop putting people into political boxes - it really doesnt matter.....
good for you...i thought that was the whole point of the forum to put your own views into any subject that you have a view on. If it was a popularity contest everyone would just be patting each other on the back and not having a debate. lets just try not to get too personal and then hopefully people will see different sides to things that might make em stop and think.

Socialism is evil because it favours the state over the individual. The state provides me with many services which I could buy better or do without if left to my own devices. The problem now is that all the main political parties are socialist. This has nothing to do with sad people getting enjoyment out of using a pack of dogs to disembowel a living mammal.

I have to disagree with you over your assertion that the Tories are socialist-who privatised all the state owned industries ?
