Now Tony won't let me shoot a pigeon!!!!
Discussion
Just read this on the farmers weekly web site
www.fwi.co.uk/article.asp?con=17508&sec=21&hier=21
It has been bad enough coming to terms with the loss of hunting, but now this!!
It would appear that I can no longer take my gun out to protect newly emerging barley from Rooks and laid summer wheat from hordes of maruding Pigeons.
Another one of Tonys crafty laws slipped in with NO consultation. I am at a complete loss to understand what is happening to this once great country.

That's UNBELIEVABLE! Is this true?
When I was a lad I LIVED to hunt pigeons. The local farmer would let me shoot on his land with an air-rifle. Used to bring home a sackful for the pot - by clearing out his barns!
Christ!
What next. Protection for rats? "Cos they're cute and furry?"
Disgraceful. I am speechless with rage!

I hadn't heard about it, so I doubt many others haven't so carry on. How many officials do you get appearing over the top of a hedge in the middle of field brandishing regulations, if they do then they'll only be trespassing so you could get them for that
If it's true then the Trafalagar Square cull is lost then they'll be 1000's more of the airborne rats about there too.

I gave up shooting years ago. I've been meaning to get back into it.
it. I'm GOING to get back into it, now. And I'm going to bring home woodpigeons for my personal consumption - particularly because it'll get up the nose of this interfering bunch of nanny-state neer-do-wells we call a Government.
May they rot in hell.

Shooting, the next target
(Filed: 02/03/2005)
How far this Government stretches its tentacles into everyday life. As of yesterday, anyone rough-shooting in a remote part of the country will have to satisfy the terms of a general shooting licence, number WLF 18. Whenever they take a pot-shot at a pigeon, they’ll first have to think: “Have appropriate non-lethal methods of control such as scaring been either ineffective or impracticable in dealing with this bird?”
The licence is a pointless one: it applies only to pests which are, by their very nature, harmful to crops and in no danger of extinction. But it is too much to expect logic in a paradoxical touchy-feely world, where the RSPB can condemn the shooting of magpies, even though magpies are plentiful and the songbirds whose eggs and young they eat are not.
After the hunt ban, saboteurs talked of spreading their net to shooting, which has the same wrongly conceived class connotations. The Government has shown few signs yet of backing a shooting ban; this licence is a straw in the wind.
I really do worry about what Labour would do if they were to secure a third term.

All is not yet lost.....
I have it on good authority that, in Chester, it's still legal to shoot a Welsh person with a bow and arrow inside the city walls after midnight........
For ferk's sake.
It must, surely, still be a rite of passage for young men to spend at least one summer of youth armed to the teeth, lying in wait in a field at dawn, for the first crow of the day?
I had many a Rambo moment, in my dad's old green army jacket, Singlepoint atop a Sterling rifle, cocked but with the bolt open, ready for the moment.
:underbreath: Come on you black bastard....

reminder to self - when next in chester, vacate any pub within city walls no later than 23:59.
I park my car in a numpty pigeon feeding site and my car is continually covered with shit. I was toying with the idea of taking an air rifle with me and blowing a few away each day and after a few months there would be few left. Seriously, they are sky-rat vermin and I'm fed up with my car being shat on. I shall be consulting the big book of poisons as I:-
a) Hate my car being covered in shite
b) Dislike the old people whinging about people parking in 'their' carpark.
c) Dislike people feeding pigeons.
d) Want to murder some animals as a punishment for me having to go to work in the wretched hell hole of Plimuff.
Ok, they are Collar Necked Doves, but I call them pigeons.
On a funny note, a local farmer has an anti-aircraft gun (with supersonic projectiles) for long distance fox shooting. Brilliant the Animal Rights posse would really have a problem with that. I'd like to see what happened if that bunch tangled with ANY of our local farmers. Forget the laws, it seems that around here they don't apply anyway.
