Personal/private Tutors

Does anyone have any recent experience with tutors?
My eldest son of 12 has learning difficulties ( ADHD ) and has the reading age of a 5/6 year old. I am currently paying Around £620 per month for both kids which is well over the odds but there seems to be fat chance of her paying anything towards this so....
Any idea of hourly costs for primary shhool reading/literacy?. I was thinking about £15-£20 per hour which would mean me finding another £80 per month.
This whole thing has been causing me stress etc for some time now as they are both such bright boys but i just cannot sit by and do nothing.
My relationship with the ex is not that good so i will have to organize it all.
Any experiences at all or insight into private tutoring may prove helpfull before i go all out and try to get this done.

Jason ( my eldest ) is very clever but guesses words. I bought him a technical 15 yr old + lego type robot thing the other day and one for the youngest. Whilst i was on the carpet trying to figure out how it all went together Jason had his on his lap. Whilst glancing occasional at the pictoral instructions it was as though his hands were a blur. he finished it in roughly 30 minutes and i ahd succeeded in making a leg for Marcus's one. Needless to say that when he asked if he could do Marcus's one to i let him.
Marcus has the same problem but less. He wants to be an archiolagist (sp) and can name every dinosaur by sight ).

It really depends how bright they actually are.

(I mean this in an objective way.)

Make sure you get any perspecetive Private Tutor to show you an up to date CRB Check form.

As some peadophiles banned from working with children in schools become Private Tutors where they do not have to have so many checks.

Music teachers in particular often fall into this grouping and there was a case locally of Music Teacher who had been sacked for abusing children setting himself up to offer private lessons.

Hmm, I cant be of that much help, but... I did have private tutoring when I was in secondary school. We(read parents) were paying about £22/ph for maths, which actually started less but was raised. They do offer different rates at peak/off peak times.

Maybe a good thing is just call all the local schools if you havnt already... Good luck

John, I hope you not implying that music teachers are often paedophiles

No I am not implying that at all only the case of Peadophilia that have envolved a member of my family (My cousin when he was 8) was Music Teacher who were doing private lessons.

I am sure they are many music teachers who have a normal interest in Children and Music.

I've got a 16yr old with severe ADHD - PM me if you want to kick some ideas around - I have some good links & been through heaps of stuff with him over the years (good AND bad!)

I also work for a National Learning Disability charity (Adults) but may be able to help you with resources & info.
