General Election May 5th?

A friend of mine who runs a church hall has had his hall booked for May the 5th for use as a Polling Station.

No announcement from the Govt yet though.

He doesn't know he can win. Big new City house, Mandy opening doors in the EU...he knows he can lose.

Seriously though, it must be a major advantage to the party in power being able to set the date. I remember just after the Falklands war Maggie had a really early election because she was very popular at the time. In the USA the elections are "fixed" - I reckon that's a lot fairer.

he probably wants to lose so he can get onto the lucrative lecture circuit tour, asap, and so start paying the mortgage on their new city pad. i mean, cherie's paltry £500k per annum can barely cover their joint dental fees.

at least cherie's job has some dignity - i mean, fighting for poor repressed muslim girls and their rights to wear whatever they like at school. make me feel, worthless, cherie.

if absolute talentless drones like john major can command a fortune in lecture tours, directorships, etc, imagine how much st tony will earn over the coming years!?

The election will be on May 5th. That decision was taken over a year ago, whatever BLiar says.

Am I right in thinking that it’s not the done thing for a Prime Minister to announce the date of an election before asking the Queen to dissolve parliament.?
