I know exactly what you mean, I've had a guts full of the rubbish back chatting that goes round the office. Hearing news via everyone else but the people it should be coming from. And 9 times out of 10, I feel it should be stuff I need to be informed on. Crazy, need to work for myself, well thats the plan within the next 18 months anyway.
When I was working for Merrill Lynch we found out via the press our whole dept was being outsouced to BNYE a week before we were told officially. The same went for over a thousand redundancies the year before.

I have known several people who have been 'recruited' internally as part of their career prograssion and then found themselves out of a job with in weeks as the 'key' department was trashed. For some it was just days.
Best of luck to anyone who may be facing these issues.
